Ambra @ October 12, 2008 12:38 pm wrote: Yeah, I'm sure the price is going to change but I just wanted to get a rough estimate of what I'd have to spend. I'm probably not going to be able to get my ticket until I get my tax refund and/or my profit-sharing bonus. As far as leaving from DC or Charlotte, whatever money I'd save on the flight I'd end up spending on gas and parking. I'm not sure how far Charlotte is but DC is four hours away, not to mention the hassle of dealing with the traffic in that area. Roanoke Regional Airport is only 45 minutes away and the parking fees are pretty reasonable.
Keep JetBlue in mind. They fly into Long Beach, which in an easy hop to Costa Mesa. It's a very easy airport to navigate. That airline is usually very reasonable with rates and it is my personal favorite for service and comfort [and not just because I only have to drive about a mile and a half to get to the airport to get to it].

They fly in and out of a lot of areas to Long beach and are expanding often; they just added nonstop service to and from Portland OR. I think the closest for Virginia is Dulles but if you can take Amtrak to the northern VA area you could get a pretty inexpensive round trip [at this time, in the $250 range or perhaps less if they are having a promotion, which they often do].

You might also check out Southwest, especially those folks in areas not serviced by JetBlue, although the chances are you will have to change planes at some point to get to LAX, Long Beach or Orange County airports. Those flights are reasonable and reliable.

I totally side with Ambra's ideas!

-The carpool suggestion. Carpooling is ALWAYS a good thing, saves on gas and helps traffic, dare I say, jams? :P

-I also agree with her room sharing idea. The rooms have two beds so if you're going alone, why not share? Plus, some rooms have multiple beds to get a whole bunch of people together.

-We get take-out and hang out for the night! Just because its night time doesn't mean we have to sulk home or anything! :P

As for airplane tickets and stuff, you don't have to buy now, but its better to buy early for the best prices. Which means, if possible, don't wait until a month before to go. Talk to a few members near you to see if you want to fly in together, share a hotel, etc.

Like I said, if a lot of people fly in the same day at around the same time, we can rent a bus or shuttle to get everyone to the designated area. :)

Just wanted to say I'd be interested and as it's the summer before I leave for college, maybe I could do it!

Anywho...

I think a karaoke/lip syncing thing (after imagining it just now) will be extremely fun. I did a little sing-along to Confessions Pt. 3 last night, but its not as fun when people aren't Al fans. They're just like....HUH?!

Hey I have connections with people who work at Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job. My friends tell me everyone at that office is huge Al fans (including Tim and Eric, obviously). They are going to let Tim and Eric know about the convention. Maybe we could get them to do something, like entertainment for our benefit? Just a thought...

That would be really cool if that happened!

They just might have to make sure it stays around PG rated because younger fans and their parents might come. I love their work but I don't want anyone to be offended or anything if they find something crude.

I dunno, just being cautious. :)
