Al himself likes a lot of different bands, different comedians, etc. I don't think even he would insist on someone's exclusive devotion as a condition for True Fandom. And as a general matter, between concert tickets and CD/DVD purchase, I say go for the concert tickets. You can still buy the recorded media later, after all.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

It helps to take breaks if only to keep things fresh and exciting and not have them go stale and mundane for you. After the Scissors tour I listened to a lot of Ben Folds; in the summer of 2001 I was lucky to have Spinal Tap's Back From The Dead tour nearby in Anaheim, a real treat. After the end of the Poodle Hat tour in 2004 I had a lot of that...uh..."work" stuff going on; I really got back into U2 then and got some other things going on in my life that are still active like my art studio, Greg, etc.
Actually my life got so full before SOL that I almost was too swamped when all the Al stuff geared up again, but I have to remember to be grateful. Before I really got back into Al in the late 1990s I had put away my art for years. Getting back into my demented side got me back in touch with my creativity, too. There's a lot of abundance in my life in a lot of arenas that has come about, directly or indirectly, because of Al.
Think of this period as expanding your horizons.
