Does Al ever have formal meet and greets or places in which the public can do this besides getting lucky on the right place and time?

Um, it's pretty much up to Al. It could be due to his schedule, how far he has to go to get to the next gig, or whatever other reason there may be...it's pretty much right place, right time kind of stuff.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

The only time AFAIK when there are truly public, all-comers, scheduled in advance meet & greets is at signings for newly released Al-bums. The crowds are ginormous, but Al is just as nice as always even though the events are mammoth.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

When I went to the MN fair in August there were meet and greet passes for after the concert. How do you get those?

I've never had a backstage pass, but I believe most people get passes from people who work for Al and the band. It just depends on who you talk to.

I think a lot of the backstage passes are given away by radio stations/promoters too. Sometimes the people wearing those passes seem considerably less thrilled than the situation warrants.

Yeah sounds like "executive box syndrome" we call that here, where football is treated as a corporate entertainment and the real football fans dont get a look in

For me there was! Other than that I dont know. I waited a while last year and Al didnt come out, but im guessing there is another door out into the hotel. Unless they were going right onto the bus, in which case they had to walk down a tunnel that is about a mile long, so they wouldnt even be in the casino/hotel area.
