I've been in my share of eccentric venues for Al concerts and they varied.

Ottawa, October 99: A hockey arena, we sat on chairs over boards over the ice. Kept the temperature in the venue nice and comfy. Great show. Al's 40th birthday. My favorite show ever :D :D :D . Also, I generally love Canadians. :Y

Dallas, March 2000: Bronco Bowl [RIP]. The venue was a concert hall and a bowling alley next to each other. Just loved it. Great concert.

Saugus CA, June 2000: Auto racetrack. A good show, although that was one where a guy who seemed to be on crystal meth jumped on the stage at the end and was being wrestled down by security guards while Al was introducing the band. "Jim West!... Steve Jay!...Ruben Valtierra!...Crazy Guy!...Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz!"

Vacaville, CA, Summer 2000 [August, IIRC]: Venue was a recently constructed minor league baseball park. The stage was set up in the outfield. Those of us who had paid for seats were in bleachers, and those who had paid less were actually closeer to the stage; so of course we stalwarts staked out the cheap seats right up front and graciously offered out comfy bleacher seats to anyone who wanted them. Squirrelygirl and I were right up at the edge of the stage. Boy, was Bedrock Anthem interesting, REALLY high kicks, I actually blushed :S . I see London, I see France... Great concert overall although there were a few drunk hooligans in the front that had me worried at times.

Some place in the middle of nowhere, western Pennsylvania, October 2000: Al's 41st birthday. The concert was in a roller rink. Awful acoustics. I got a migraine headache and had to leave at the start of the medley :( .

I don't recall any nonstandard venues for my PH shows, and of course the 2002 shows were all at the OC Fair.

Oh I would LOVE to go to New Zealand, but there's no way I can afford a trip like that right now.

Cheers, Diva
Back down memory lane, still blushing at the recollection of Vacaville 2000 O-)

That was a...um, unique show for a number of reasons. I'm really sorry you started getting a migraine, as I sympathize completely, but it's a shame you missed a great Mongo tackle.

How about that idiot who was passing out birthday hats before the show? Boy, what a dork. :lookaround:

But Lansdowne Park isn't a hockey arena...

Maybe not the whole park, but there is a hockey arenathere.

Diva, there are a million questions I have concerning *that*, that I won't ask. And that stinks about the headache.
Hmmm...something's gone horribly awry here...

I’m trying to help out by putting “White & Nerdy” video on my Myspace page for UK fans!

Here are some nice suggestions of venues for Al and his band to play in the UK.

London:

Wembley Arena

Hammersmith Palais

Shepherds Bush Empire

Royal Albert Hall

Hyde Park (Open air)

Dominion Theatre

Please feel free to suggest some nice venues if you wish! :D
SECC

Hampden Park

Celtic Park (both major football stadiums, but somehow doubt that;s for him just now)

I think the SECC is his best and safest bet (for Scotland). I would suggest Glasgow Carling Academy too.

I'd be careful about playing the smaller areas in the SECC though - when I went to see The Offspring there, the support bands got shoes thrown at them.

Anyway, I don't think Al will be playing at big stadiums because it would be his first time here, and unlike Green Day, playing one show in the UK at only one stadium (in England usually <_< ) won't work. So small venues with not very big capacities will probably work best. (SECC... you know you want to, Al :P )

What nice concert mems, Diva! :inlove:

A ROLLER RINK?! Now, come on, that sounds like something out of a bad movie. I feel horrible for Al+TBITB for having to play in those conditions, and sorry you got such a headache...gyms aren't the best places for concerts either.

Oooo I went to a RWS show at a gym/basketball court. It wasn't too bad. The after show thing was bizarro though. Come to think of it, the final RWS show was in a gym too.

We also went to that show in Allentown that was on some sort of racetrack, remember?
