Al seems to really like jelly donuts, they're mentioned in the lyrics of at least 4 separate songs:

Albuquerque:

I said "You got any jelly donuts?"

He said "No, we're outta jelly donuts"

Dog Eat Dog:

Well, do I smell jelly donuts? This is my lucky day!

I'll have some coffee with a carcinogenic sweetener

Hold on a minute, just one more jelly donut

They'll never miss it...No, they'll never miss it!

Grapefruit Diet:

Oh, get those jelly donuts out of here

Midnight Star:

Eat jelly donuts and lose twenty pounds a day.

And then there are just ordinary donuts in . . .

I Can't Watch This:

Wish they'd lynch those donut-eatin' freaks

Stuck In A Closet With Vanna White:

Donuts and hot dogs are flying everywhere

But while there's plenty of fat in donuts, there are no donuts in Fat.

QUOTE Possible Poodle Hat clue on UHF!

The audio commentary, when Al and Jay are talking about character names and their origins, Al mentions he chose Bob, because it's a palindrome.

Seems to me that song was sitting in one of his famous notebooks by then waiting to be recorded (Or already recorded)

You beat me to it, spacedingo! I posted here just a few minutes ago, and rboy27 pointed out you had noticed it, too.

Well I see you posted this yesterday, so I'm wondering at what exact hour you watched UHF so we can determine who actually discovered this first! :) Just kidding of course. But it's an odd coincidence that we both discovered it around the same time.

BTW, weird el mentioned here another fact which suggests that the palindrome reference in the movie commentary and "Bob" the song were very probably related.

And if you REEEEEEALLY wanna get esoteric, there's another jelly donut reference in the lyrics to the early 80's concert-only song "I'm Stupid Blues":

"I walked on up to the lady at the window.

She said, 'Yeahhh, whaddya want?'

I said, 'You got any cinnamon donuts?'

She said, 'Nah, we're outta cinnamon donuts.'

I said, 'You got any jelly-filled donuts?'

She said, 'Nah, we're outta jelly-filled donuts.'

I said, 'You got any bear claws?'

She said, 'Ah, wait a minute, I'll go check.'

-- eight second accordion instrumental --

'Nah, we're outta bear claws!!!'

I said, 'Well, in that case, ... baby, you got any buffalo cookies?'

She stared me straight in the eye ...

Said, 'HOW MANY DO YOU WANT????'"

Gee, that sounds vaguely familiar ......... :lookround:

Weird Al fandom through telepathy! It works! :D

Maybe one of the "Big Boys" knows the commentary recording date. If it was done 1-5 months before March 26th, 2002 (Bob's recording date according to Al's site) or a little after that, then I'm sure this reference is more than coincidental.
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

QUOTE ...I really doubt if he uses the same lyric twice within a span of several years that he is cross refrencing another song. A parody where he refrences another song or video of the artist he is doing the parody of is simply part of the gag. An example of a good cross refrence is They Might Be Giant's \"Hey Mr. DJ, I though you said we had a deal.\" TMBG actually have true cross song refrences when they say, \"Well I told you about the world (it's address)...You know that rabid child is still tuning in, Chess piece face's patience must be wearing thin.\"

Those are three refrences to their own songs 'The World's Address', 'Rabid Child', and 'Chess Piece Face'. I really doubt that when Al says 'it' somewhere in RWS, he's making some cross refrence to an 'it' somewhere in Alapalooza e.e

Much like everything else, The Beatles were probably the first to do this. From "Glass Onion", track 3 on disc 1 of "The White Album":

QUOTE I told you about strawberry fields
you know the place where nothing is real
well here's another place you can go
where everything flows.

Looking through the bent-backed tulips
to see how the other half live
looking through a glass onion.

I told you about the walrus and me, man
you know we're as close as can be, man
well here's another clue for you all
the walrus was Paul.

Standing on the cast iron shore, yeah
Lady Madonna trying to make ends meet, yeah
looking through the glass onion

Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
looking through the glass onion.

I told you about the fool on the hill
I tell you man he's living there still
well here's another place you can be
listen to me.

Fixing a hole in the ocean
trying to make a dove-tail joint, yeah
looking through a glass onion.

Which pulls together the titles from "Strawberry Fields Forever" (...nothing is real...), "I Am The Walrus", "Lady Madonna", "Fool On The Hill" and "Fixing A Hole" - and worked in a reference to the blossoming "Paul is dead" controversy.

Some people also think the title "Glass Onion" refers to the Sgt. Pepper drum. Let me explain: Onions are covered in skin that is mostly transparent (like glass). The onion "skin" is refering to the drum "skin". Or something like that. I read it in one of my "Paul is Dead" books.
