1976 KMET bumpers?

Post by Eyeball Chair »

I remember reading on Al's rare item page that there were KMET Indents on the Ampex cassette that Al sent to Dr D in 1976. Does anyone know anything about said indents?

I honestly thought these were bumpers Al recorded for KMET, and the Dr. Demento Show.

Digging this old thread up to give closure and in case anyone still sifts through WOWAY threads for research.

There was a recent update over at DMDB's list of Unreleases Al songs.
There were two KMET IDs in 1976 on the same tape as Belvedere Cruisin' and Dr. D Superstar
One was an "O Christmas Tree" parody and the other is described as a "beat poet take-off." Neither of which had ever aired.

Three more were submitted in 1977 on the same tape as Dead Car Battery Blues and Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung. One is listed with the parenthetical "(southern drawl)", another with no parenthetical whatsoever, and a third with the parenthetical "(tambourine version)." Tambourine version had three takes. The first of three takes has aired today on The Dr. Demento Show before. IIRC, it was before I Love Your Toes by SuLu.
It's pretty charming.

1976 IDs are listed with a firm "Never aired" whereas there's a "never aired(?)" for the 1977 ones.

Hope this helps folks. It probably will go by the way side as Dr. D Superstar has finally aired in its entirety.
