Re: 05/01/12, Wichita, KS Hartman Arena
After reading the Albquerque review, I am puzzled. The clips were still the same as last year's tour, and I'm not sure why they would revert back to those clips. However, I do prefer the Al-TV clips, so I'm not complaining. Just weird. Maybe they were just gauging audience reaction in Albuquerque.
I got a cheap seat for this show, as I hadn't gotten a ticket yet. $25 is not bad at all for a concert, and my seat was perfect. Direct dead-center with Al's mic, elevated enough to get a great view of the stage and lights, and no one to the right or left of me. The crowd was a little less for the type of arena it was in, but was probably equal...if not a little more, than the venue they usually play in Wichita. I enjoyed this venue more, solely for my seat, but The Cotillion is a more unique concert venue.
Anyway, it was interesting to see the new LED video screen. They also had LED light strips, which I know I have seen them experiment with before at a couple past shows. Near the end of the last tour. The combo looked impressive together. Although, I was a ways away, and it was still really bright. The colors did look different, and the screen appeared to be smaller than normal. That may have just been from my vantage point, though. Enjoyed some clearer screen effects during Lovr, Ebay, Craigslist. They aren't new, but they really have a greater effect when they are clearer.
Al had a couple line flubs. One in the polka in the Owl City song, another in Party In The CIA, and Another Tattoo. The mic seemed to slightly fade out in Lasagna and Eat It. The audio of the Fat video clip was ahead of the video.
They must still be doing alternating songs as You Make Me was performed tonight. The coffee shop was Riverside Perk. He did the same Alec Baldwin line in Craigslist.
After the show, I picked up a nice promotional poster from the venue. Enjoyed my time in Wichita, and looking forward to Minneapolis on Thursday.
