there are many recordings, and there are only a few from 1983, like the one I'm watching now:

Mod edit: No links to bootlegs on WOWAY. Moved to Tour forum

no one recorded any from 1980-82. why is that?

I don't think many people who had good cameras would have thought of recording a concert back then.

And if they did have camcorders, why record a flash-in-the-pan novelty artist? I mean, will anybody even recognize his name in 1983? ^_^
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Actually, there is only one 1983 recording circulating, and that is an official recording from Bermuda's archives. There are 2 audience recordings from 1984, 1 from 85, 2 from 87, 1 from 92...really, it wasn't until 1996 that a lot of people recorded shows.

Just be thankful that some recordings got leeked from Bermuda's archive, or else we wouldn't have any video of 83, 84, or 85.

Forgot...
There is a 1981 recording, but it's not audience-recorded.

the only one from 83 is the one at "The Bottom Line" in NYC, right?

Yes. The setlist is:

The Railroads
I'm Stupid Blues
Gotta Boogie
Stop Draggin' My Car Around

It's really interesting to listen to, since it's just al on accordion. He pretty much screams everything though...

EDIT: yes, the bottom line from 7/29/83 is the only one circulating. There's a clip of a 5/24/83 one on youtube but it's just 2 songs. Another one from Bermuda's archive...

I am not promoting bootlegging in that sentence up there.
