Out of the blue a couple days ago, my mom decided to wax philosophical about the Weird Al concert on Saturday and said that she swore that when he bowed at the end, his face was very different - like he'd gone from "Weird Al" to normal everyday Al. I guess a better way to describe this was, she thinks he looks different depending on whether or not he's in his "Weird Al" persona.
I dunno, I've never noticed anything like that... anyone know what she's talking about??

It would make sence, after all he is a husband and a father and it would be hard to stay in Weird Al persona, I'm not saying hes less funny or less of a good guy, like some others are... Just maybe he dosn't run arround the house polkaing, during Ninas napptime, or cut up and shoot Ruben, I think your Moms makin' alota since
Oh snap!

I think he acts "normal" a lot. In most interviews, there are many "normal" moments. Also, in that behind the scenes thing in the recording studio- he acts very normal. He's a serious recording artist.

That's absolutely true. Tho' I don't think you get as much of the "Weird Al" persona in his stage concert that we see when he makes a TV appearance or when he's doing ALTV and such. I think during his own concert, you get to see a lot of the real Al.TheLazenby @ Jul 12 2007, 08:32 PM wrote: his face was very different - like he'd gone from "Weird Al" to normal everyday Al. That's one of the things that makes a live show so special. He's clearly having a grand time.
And I gotta tell you... the wacky, wild, zany, crazzzeeeeee "Weird Al" persona would get old fast. I love Al Yankovic. But "Weird Al" not as much. If you know what I mean.

Well... think of it this way...
The "Weird Al" that you see in the music videos, TV shows, and hear on albums and in concert is a character. He's a comedian. His job is to be funny when he's in front of an audience.
All other times, he's just as much of a "normal" person as anyone else. Of course he doesn't run around the house singing polkas. Although his job is to be funny, he takes his job extremely seriously. Just watch the SOL behind the scenes footage. The Al that you see in present-day interviews and anywhere else where he isn't in front of people is his true personality. He's not as wacky and upbeat.

Well, I can only speak from personal experience. And when I met him 2 weeks ago he seemed nice enough while I was talking to him about my great grandmas' illness, and when I thanked him for his music, he looked at me as seriously as anyone I've ever talked to. And the hug he gave me was more than sincere.
mind=blown

Your mom's right. That bit at the very end of a concert where he says goodbye to the audience and tells us he loves us all... that's his real smile. That person, friendly and thankful and thrilled to be doing what he's doing, is who Al really is. Offstage he's more quiet, and observant, not hyper; he's still funny, but not obsessively so. It's not hard at all to make him crack up laughing; he doesn't have to be the only funny guy in the room. He does look different when he's not being "Weird Al." He's got a great face for comedy, but I was really surprised the first time I met him in person at how much better looking he is in real life when he's not performing.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

To me he's many people/characters on stage. He's Bob Dylan, he's Curt Kobain, he's Michael Jackson, he's etc. etc. etc.
