The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood has announced its nominations for the 34th annual Annie Awards, the animation industry's most prestigious honor (their Oscars).

Bill Plympton's video for DDTS has been nominated in the Best Animated Short Subject category!

You can read about it here or here.

The awards will take place on February 11. Congratulations to both Bill and Al!

That's awesome! Congrats, Bill and Al!
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Yeah, I would think any of the others (except maybe "Pancreas") would've been a better choice.

You got me on that one. Quickly looking over the nomination rules, it doesn't look like there was really anything that would disqualify all of the other videos, unless none of the other animators were members of the ASIFA-Hollywood (which I can't quite believe).

It is a little strange.....perhaps because DDTS was more "commercially" available (Not that the other 5 weren't...just this one moreso...I guess). Maybe the respect Bill gets in the animation community...hmmm....

Whatever the case, it's great news! :whoot:
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

A curious statement considering the Oscars DO have animation categories.

But still, nominations for awards is a good thing, so congratulations to Bill (and Al)
This means something. This is important.

Well, I didn't want to assume that everyone on here knows what the Annie Awards are, so I thought a very obvious comparison was appropriate.

It might be because Bill, since he earns tremendous respect in the animation community.

A quick check over on the IMDb shows that Bill has been nominated for an Annie only once before (in 1998), so maybe they felt he deserved to be in the running again.

The animation style of DDTS is more innovative than the others. Some of the other ones are just flash animations or simple styles, whereas DDTS is more artistic.
