Al Sightings!

Post by mrmeadows »

I can't believe it! A mere two days after seeing and meeting Al at the Virgin Megastore in Santa Monica for his Poodle Hat signing...what happens?

Well, I work in the Disney Channel building in Burbank and at around 10:30 this morning I went to the coffee shop in the lobby to get a refill. As

I'm walking back to the elevator, who should I see walking past me? No, not TV's Gregory Harrison, but our very own AL!!!! I was stunned! My jaw dropped and I almost said something, but it got stuck in my throat! I could have said, "Hi Al! Remember me from Tuesday's signing? I'm the guy that said I've been a fan of yours since 1974 when I really meant 84! Remember?!?" or "I saw you on Kilborn last night! Is he as big of a jerk as he came off as? Anyway, you were GREAT!" But NOOOOOOO-OOOOOO! I just stared blankly at him as he went by......I didn't say a word.

I found out later that he did an interview or something on Radio Disney that morning (they broadcast out of our building). Anyone hear it? Anyone here actually LISTEN to Radio Disney? I know I certainly don't!

Anyway, you're probably wondering why I didn't say anything to him. Well, obviously I was in partial shock seeing my #1 favorite celebrity in my workplace so soon after seeing him at the record store. But also, he was walking through the lobby with some blonde lady and they were chatting it up and they looked like they were on their way to the parking lot elevators...I felt bad about busting in on their conversation with a measly "H-h-hi, Al! I'm a fan...[babble-babble]...Uh, I love the new album, um....[bargle-nawdle-zouss]...uh...yeah." I know he's supposed to be the nicest man in showbiz (and he is!), I still felt like it would be rude to interrupt him. MAYBE if I had made eye-contact with him, I could have signaled that I was a fan and would like to shake his hand or something, but since he never looked my way, I just sorta stared as he walked by. It was a cool moment, but I'm still kicking myself for not saying anything.

Anyway, has anyone else experienced any unexpected Al sightings? Did you handle yourselves more smoothly than I did? Post your stories here! I'd like to read about them! (and maybe learn a thing or two about how to approach him next time I get the opportunity...if I even get another opportunity)

I suppose tackling him and wrestling him to the ground is out? Ok then.

I'm still waiting for my expected Al sighting.

Do you have storys about Al you would like to tell? I have one. In 1993 or 1994 my cousin was driving back to his collage, Michigan State University. While he was driving , he saw a man on the side of the road. It was Al! He was flaging people down, handing out tickets for his concert at MSU or somewhere elese because not many people where going to the concert. Does anyone elese have a story?

No one was coming to see Al live?? I find that hard to believe. Sounds like an urban legend to me.

Uh...a long time ago, someone my dad knew saw Al in an airport...

That's all I can think of right now.

Didn't we have an Al sighting topic? MrMeadows started it. Where'd that guy go, anyway?

At my second Al concert, we waited for Al to appear before the show. He finally did, but just walked by between two security guards. However, he gaves us the peace sign.
