Autograph signings

Post by Harvey Hamster »

I'm sooo sorry if this has already been answered a million times, but how do you find out if and where Al is doing Autograph signings at the concert I'm going to? I'm going to my first Al concert on July 20th in NJ and I would love to get my Poodle Hat CD signed and maybe even get a picture with Al. Again, dont kill me if this has already been discussed. PLEASE!!! :nervous:

basically find a mob of ppl waiting somewhere, usually somewhere around a bus, or a back door, if you see a bus, make sure you dont crowed it, ppl need to get in and out of it, and usually someone will come around and say move if your too close, his name is skip, he may seem mad or rude, but he really a nice guy when you get to know him, and dont piss him off cause he has the decision to say who stays and who goes, and be prepared to wait at least an hr or longer after the shows over
fred

total shows to date, 161

Skip was very nice to us at SLO. Well, you know... he didn't let us see Al or anything, but he was very nice about it.

Then Al came out... No autographs, but it was nice that he cared. That's what I love about him. That and the writhing and mic licking...

That's exactly what happened in North Tonawanda. We found a mob of people waiting around outside the stage door, eventually security people shuffled us around a bit so that the techies and everything could get through, till we were herded outside near the tour busses. About an hour later, Skip came out, gave us the meeting-Al-code-of-conduct, and Al came out.

Which brings me to a related question -- my son and I both got our tshirts signed. He just got Al, I got Al, Bermuda, and Jim. To anyone who's had this done before... how WASHABLE are these shirts now??? Like, can we wear them around to show them off, throw them in the laundry when they're dirty just like normal? Or do they need to be kept locked under tight security and never allowed to get the slightest speck of dust on them? Heh...

As far as I know, they were signed with the standard Sharpie.

Hey, I have a Sharpie right here! It says:
ULTRA FINE POINT PERMANENT MARKER
NOT FOR LETTER WRITING OR CLOTH
NONTOXIC CONFORMS TO ASTM D-4236

Probably it says "no cloth" because of the bleeding. If I had to guess, I'd say: wear for special occasions only, wash cold, drip dry, no bleach, and if it fades, ask Al & the band to sign another one. :)

Next time, you could always buy one of those fabric markers, and ask them to sign with that. Then you can wash your shirt with no worries.

My kids have had quite a few shirts signed by various people over the years, all with standard Sharpies, and someone told me long ago to take them home and iron over the signature (no steam) before washing and that the signature will last much longer. I've always done that and we have shirts that are several years old and washed many times where the signature still looks great.

A little tip I picked up by eavesdropping on a conversation TonyG was having... the autograph lasts longer if you are not wearing the shirt when the artist signs it. Apparently you get better ink coverage if you aren't wearing it.

See the neat things you can learn at an Al concert?

Oh and another tip I picked up. Take a sharpie with you. Preferably one of those double tipped ones. If you can be helpful to the person you are hoping to get an autograph from, that's a good thing....

Well, that makes sense. Jon or Steve or Al wouldn't want to really bear down and and engrave his name in your back, now would he?
