Weird Al Interview Tomorrow - What do you REAL fans want?

Post by mallen »

I produce a radio show that will have Al on as a guest tomorrow. I figured I'd come here to find out from the hardcore fans what you would love to know about Al. We stay away from all the typical questions that every other show will ask him, so we're always looking to dig a little deeper with guests. Of course, with Al, deeper is a fun way. We're not trying to break Weird Al news or anything. He's been a fun guest in the past, and we hope to repeat.

Comment with anything you'd like to suggest.

The interview will be recorded, but once an air date/time is available (or download becomes available) we'll be sure to let you know!

I would like to know who was the group or artist Al approached
at Bonaroo? Any story behind this?
I didn't see any Bonaroo artists on the new album

Inquire about his original songs. They are constantly overlooked. I feel like most people don't appreciate the musicianship of Al and his band. Besides just changing lyrics, they have emulated the sounds of so many different artists, and have always hit the nail on the head. This new album has some of the most hardcore original material he has ever recorded.

I'm interested in if he'll keep the parodies to originals ratio once he begins releasing music digitally.

Also, just to get philosophical, ask him how he perceives the public's sense of humor. Has it changed/evolved dramatically over the course of his three-decade career? Do people generally find the same things funny as time goes on? Are there things he can get away with now that he couldn't in the past, and vice versa?

Ask Al how he might approach polkas in the future. Will he do them? How often if he does?

Hey mallen, it would be great if you asked him when he plans to go on tour to promote Mandatory Fun. Also, does he think that his transition to online distribution might affect the rate that he releases music, or the ratio of parodies to originals. And what will become of the polka medleys??!

Thanks!

Is there going to be any way we will be able to hear the interview online after it's done?

I'd like you to ask what motivated him to skip the whole "lead-single" process w/this album. It seems like as recently as five to six weeks ago, he was pretty certain he wanted one for this album.

I still don't think Al was entirely serious with the "no lead single" thing. It still sounds like a good way to tell people to figure out which song off the album they really like.

I second Jon's request for a tour estimate, and would like to know if Al might actually work out writing/recording songs between the legs of tours, like he did during the Alpocalypse tour, possibly causing set list changes when breaks like these occur.
