Day of Show Notes: Left home at 8AM this morning for the 7 hour drive. Stopped at Perkins around 1PM. When we were filling up to head back on the road, beside the gas station, we ran into Al's Melons. After having a chuckle at that, we were on our way to Hamburg, NY. Al plays the 'weirdest' places. Got into Hamburg, and ended up going through many roundabouts. I still see no purpose in these traffic circles, or how they help the flow of traffic. Anyway, first we found the Fairground delivery entrace, and had to go around the block, to actually find the casino event center. Ended up getting to the event center a little before four, and soundcheck had just started. They ran through the Polka, Smells Like Nirvana, The Medley, Canadian Idiot, and TMZ. Picked up the two tickets that I had won through a contest on The Fairground's Facebook page. Then, we made our way to check out the hotel. After continuing to get lost around Hamburg, we finally found our way, relaxed a little bit, and then headed back for the show.
Show Notes: Concert started at 8PM. Doors opened at 7PM. The seating was just folding chairs flat on the floor, so sight lines were slightly dismayed. However, they did have two neat screens on the sides of the stage, as well as, having a sky camera, which showed some neat views for Bermuda and Ruben. I liked that our seats were far enough back that we could take in the whole stage, even though, we were slightly blocked by the setup for the technical booth. Also, it was great to get to see HalifaxCat before the show. The introduction for the first drum solo was, "I believe this is the first ever rock show in this venue. So, to celebrate this, we are going to do a DRUM SOLO!". In Smells Like Nirvana, Al just chucked the cup of water into the audience. There was a slight video problem after Nirvana, heading into Skipper Dan. It played the video from Nirvana, which didn't play during the song, and then they had to reboot it, I believe. When it was rebooted, the sound had to get adjusted to the overlay, which created a slight double audio for a moment. Another slight technical problem, was for the start of Party In The CIA. Jim seemed to have trouble with his guitar, which got them a second or two off from starting and simultaneously the video. The 2nd drum solo into was, "I sense a weird energy in here. I sense that you all are waiting for something. Well, we don't want to keep you waiting, so DRUM SOLO REPRISE!" During Canadian Idiot, I was thinking that this may be the last time that Canadian Idiot is performed near Canada. There was probably a 25% Canadian audience there tonight. The venue's audience camera for Wanna B Ur Lovr went out shortly into the song reverting back to band stage shots. Al seemed to go pretty far out into the audience for Lovr almost reaching the last section. In the medley, 'His' sounded like 'Hi-'. That may have been a mic issue, though, although it sounded like Al was out of breath for a minute. The coffee shop for Craiglist was the Tim Horton's in the Hamburg Casino. This seemed to help their business, as there were many people that visited after the show. Pretty cool with the sky cameras for the view on Steve and Ruben during the song while they were jamming on the keyboards. For Perform This Way, it was the first time that I have noticed Jim not wearing the cheesehead as part of his costume, and Ruben still did not have his beehive hat, which stopped sometime during the last leg of the tour. The lights in Perform This Way came on a tad early from the music. For the Fat Outro, Al held out Jon's last name for a bit, Sccchhhwwaaaaaaaarrrrtttzz instead of the usual outro. Al replaced We in Saga Begins with I. In the intro to Yoda, Ruben held the chord for the intro to Adams Family longer than usual.
Merch Notes: There were three new pieces of merchandise. The new tour shirt with the current dates on the back, the UHF poster that they were selling at the screening in Tulsa, and the NEW BOBBLEHEAD! So glad, that the new item finally came through and it is a beauty. Al's merch girl told me that there were 160 bobbleheads sold through the tour. They may become available online at a later date. They also had an article from the Tulsa World taped to the merch stand tablecloth, and Steve had new promo cards out on the table.
After-Show Notes: There was not a general meet for this show, as the buses were behind the venue in a gated area. Public was not allowed access.
Next Show: Tomorrow, October 5, is Al's show at the Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. Pretty unique venue with a long stage will be interesting to see how Al works on it. Hopefully the forecast is good.
