Sometimes, if they guys in the band know you, you can get them. I'm not saying to pester anyone, though.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

There was one kid with a paper sign the read "WOWAY" I followed him to the back stage area but he and the others wouldnt talk. My kids and I are as big Al fans as anyone but maybe we havent paid our dues yet?
I dont know? Ill be in gilford tomorrow night . i dont want to pester anyone .

Probably the vast majority of the passes (in places outside So. California, where Al & the band have lots of friends, relatives and professional connections) go through the hands of promoters and sponsors and radio stations. And how to get in range of those, I don't have the slightest. But the thing is, if you keep going to Al shows (and especially if you pick smallish venues in the middle of a string of not-terribly-far-apart gigs) your chances are good of being able to meet Al without a pass. I think we figured it out last year at about 1 show out of 4 where Al met folks. As I heard Bermuda say once, the difference between having a pass and not having a pass is often about 5 minutes (as in, Al coming out to meet the passless 5 minutes after he finishes up with the Stickered Chest People).
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

I agree. A couple of weeks ago in Louisville, Al did the show, then did an hour and a half meet and greet. Came onto the bus, had a quick drink of water, said hi, looked in the fridge, and then spent the next hour and a half sitting on the bottom step signing autographs and meeting the fans. That man tries extremely hard to make himself available to his fans.

As far as the meet and greet passes: I will ask them next week when we meet up in order to clear up this little mystery. To be honest, I've never asked! I always assumed you purchased them with the tickets but from my reading the post, it sounds... not.

You've never been able to purchase them. You get them from the venue, promoter, or the band/crew members themselves. It's one of those "who you know" things. You can't just go and ask the venue or a band/crew member- you have to have an existing relationship with someone.

Hi All,
We are going to Meadowbrook in NH tonight. We went to the concert there last year as well. There was a meet and greet after the show. I did not get in on it but I ran into a gal a few months later who did. She told me that she had her Al T-shirt on and she was dancing with her son in an outer aisle(where she would not block anyones view). An usher went up to her and said something like you must be a big fan and handed her a couple of sticker passes for backstage. She was thrilled and her kids had a heck of a night.
The right place at the right time.

Hi guys,

I am from the UK and have been a massive Al fan since I was about 14. We are travelling to the Salem Oregon show in August and have just bought VIP tickets. I would love to meet Al and say thanks or get a picture but dont know how. Is there any way to contact his management at all ?

If not then its cool but I cannot wait to see the man himself perform.

Thanks in advance.

I saw them last year in beverly mass. I got in to see Al by just looking pathetic I
think. Anyone got a clue?
I bet the "fan club" that Meadowbrook (NH) was probably referring to was Artist Arena, which isn't even a fan club. Buying the $150 VIP tickets from Artist Arena did not include meet & greet passes. Meadowbrook also told me that they do not have any access to passes or discretion in giving them out. They only hand over the passes that have been left at the will call window by the band and crew.

Cindyandthecats, I'm not sure how your friend got passes by dancing in the aisle. Maybe someone couldn't use their passes and gave them to an usher to give away?

Is anyone keeping a list for 2008?

July 9 - Atlantic City, NJ - unknown. The bus was nowhere to be seen around the perimeter of the casino, so one would really have had to gone searching for it if there was one.

July 10 - Westbury, NY - yes

July 23 - Scranton, PA - yes
