I found it to be disturbing as well, but I agree with Jeremy. I think he was purposely using an extreme example without really being serious about it. I'm sure he doesn't really think that Al's fans would kill themselves if Al told them to. It wasn't really an appropriate example, but it wasn't serious.

Well, I didn't think he was serious, Kevbo, but it was still an extreme example, and it bothered me.

Anyway, my opinion still stands. I liked the performance, but I agree it needs tweaking.

I don't think that anyone would find that comment disturbing unless deep down inside they knew it held some grain of truth. It disturbs me too because of that. Now obviously that ridiculous situation would never happen, and the fans I'm talking about probably don't post on here too often because they're probably busy driving back and forth in front of Al's house. But it's not just Al who has these kind of overly obsessed fans.

Extreme examples defeat the purpose of whatever attempted point is made. I believe this is true in any argument.

re: Al and rap performances. Yes, they are VERY similar. One possible solution -- is there anything querky enough in Chamillionaire's performance of Ridin' Al can use when he does White & Nerdy?

I enjoyed the performance. My favorite part was Steve and Jim -- their choreography (or lack thereof) was very funny to me.

hehe, I liked Jim and Steve, too. I loved it when Jim, Al and Steve were swaying back and forth. Jim seemed to really get into his performance, while Steve was a little more laid back, but they were both great! So funny!

Well, I certainly hope they're not doing that. We have WARNED people, time and time again, about the roving packs of attack poodles led by Bela that patrol the Yankovic shrubbery.

Actually, according to something Bermuda said once, Al has very few "off-the-deep-end" fans compared to other stars, and he said that none of the ones he DOES have fall into the "really scary" category. And we hope it stays that way.

Me, I'm looking forward to future performances of W & N. Al will keep tweaking it until he gets it right.

I know that comic has very little to do with this thread or actual topic here, but it's my favorite comic, and this thread needs some comedy. Plus, it sort of exhibits the type of point sethmartin was trying to make. That of...'if Al did this,' yada yada. His comment, I'm sure, was not meant to upset. It may have been extreme, but, then again, so is "Weasel Stomping Day."

As far as this going "off-topic," Alinite27, I didn't see you offer any insight into the topic at hand. It always bothers me when people come into a thread (especially when they haven't been part of the discussion) and say 'get back on-topic' and then don't offer any opinions or comments about the topic they're supposed to be on. That's even more off-topic. (So since this has turned into the "bash WOWAY" thread that's my gripe for the day.)

And as far as the performance, I guess I just expect more from Al. You can say it was the first time they performed it and all that jazz, but they did have to at least rehearse it a few times, and they did record the studio track. They had plenty of time to prepare, as we knew about the appearance on the Tonight Show almost a month before it aired. And I expect so much because, in the past, Al has given so much, with nearly flawless live performances. If it was The Vines coming on the Tonight Show, I wouldn't hold my breath, because they have always been a terrible live act. But I don't think Al fits under that category.

Ya, if you take a look at some... *ahem* Aiken fans.... we're all very tame. A lot of the pop "hotties" (Hilton, Myraz, Clarkson, etc) have fans that can get VERY hostile and stalkerish.

Ah, but you're forgetting that Al spent most of that time on the road doing radio and TV interviews and the like. In reality, they probably didn't really have that much time to prepare for the performance.
