All they showed was his Grammy clip and left it at that. They could've at least kept Al saying "I didn't mean any harm" or had Al briefly discuss their meeting at the XM trade show 5 years ago.RyanHippFTW wrote:I'm failing to see how the bit about Coolio is or has an editing issue.

Re: Behind The Music
Coolio is a bit of a red herring.. Al had permission to use the music from songwriter Stevie Wonder anyway (Pastime Paradise) and that's all that matters in law. We know there was a mix up about whether Coolio's blessing was given, but reading between the lines it seems likely that he was pissed that his permission wasn't REALLY necessary anyway as he was not the songwriter

Re: Behind The Music
I just watched. I don't think it was so awful that they talked about the Funny Or Die thing. Didn't seem like it was too much. I thought that was hilarious, so why not? Jumping from 2 Grammys to 4 was pretty interesting....unless Vh-1 is psychic!! As far as the Coolio thing, yeah, they could have updated the info if they were insistent on still talking about it, but overall, I enjoyed this special. Nice to see more of the band, and Suzanne, of course. Adorable baby pics of Nina, too.

4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:
"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11
So awesome!

Re: Behind The Music
Felt kinda quick and rushed from where they had to speed up and take a few things out of the original. There was lots more they could have talked about, especially instead of Weasel Stomping Day but it was good. I liked seeing the new pictures of Nina and I always like hearing from Suzanne, she is jsut very intresting to me. So much has happened since the first BTM i wish they would just make a whole new one. The Hawiaan ladscape was very pretty too.

Yeah Patti, it was nice seeing the whole band on there, especially Jim and Ruben. I know Ruben had nothing in the original, can't remember if Jim did though. I want to say no

Re: Behind The Music
I feel like Jim had something. Haven't seen the original in forever, though, so I could be wrong.
Just watched this. Didn't like how rushed it felt, but I still really enjoyed it. I also really agree that they didn't have to go through every album, but oh well.

Re: Behind The Music
Mike, I think Jim got to say like one thing in the original, which of course, was not a snippet that was used for this. I think he talked a little about that gig they played when they opened for Missing Persons, IIRC. They used my favorite quote from Steve, though. "They hated us to the fullest". Always gives me a chuckle. Good to see more of Jim, and to finally hear from Rubén!

Re: Behind The Music
Woo hoo! The VH1 Classic site now has Al's episode available for viewing online. I think I agree with the people who thought some things (like Weasel Stomping Day) got too much airtime; I think that and the Weird trailer were mostly in there because they were good visual footage. But it was great to see more of the band members and Suzanne and Nina (cute!)

Re: Behind The Music
I enjoyed watching it, though the first half was just them cutting up the previous BTM but you can't expect too much. I agree the later half felt rushed and putting Weasel Stomping Day in there was out of place. It was like, "Hey, here's this top 10 single of White & Nerdy and...Oh! Look! Stop-motion! Let's use Weasel Stomping Day!"
the Weird trailer also felt out of place, but again, to them it was probably something interesting visually, so why not.
I really did enjoy seeing more of everyone's interviews. The pics of Nina were cute. I really enjoyed watching the updated special though.
