You know, Melissa, you make an interesting point...
Fact is, I used to be a major Orlando Bloom fan. Posters on my walls, grabbing heaps of movies just because he was in them, heaps of pics on my computer...
Suffice to say, I think the point where I changed was when I started to really get into my Al fandom. Sure, I still have all of those movies and pics, but I don't watch the movies as much as I used to. And I think I began to notice my priorities were changing when I first noticed that I had twice as many pics of Al on my computer as of Orlando Bloom. (I think there's significantly more Al pics than that now!) I saw an article with a picture of Orlando Bloom on the open page of a magazine my store manager was reading, and found I couldn't really care less. It was a bit of a shock to me, but one that I don't object to.

I'm just an Al Gal now, pure and simple. And I don't care whether people think that's strange, for me to be somewhat disinterested in the 'heartthrobs' I used to like. I'm proud of the fact that I'm an Al fan.
I like the fact that I can be proud of my fandom instead of having to feel like there's something wrong with being a fan of someone. And it's a nice feeling to be able to explain to people who don't know who Al is, especially when they get that sudden spark of recognition in their eyes when you remind them that they actually have heard of him...

What I like best about Al is definitely that he was extremely nice to me a few years ago when I got really sick and had to spend a lot of time in the hospital. He called during one of my long hospital stays that summer and got me backstage to some concerts.

That was an incredibly nice thing of Al to do. Its always great to get support of a hero or someone you really like when you're sick.

It really was. Al is a really nice guy. The story about how he ended up calling me is actually pretty funny, but it's pretty long. I might post it in the blather thread when I have a lot of free time on my hands.

A long story about Al? What could be better?

I like his humbleness. He truly seems garteful to his fans; he knows he would not be where he is without us.
I also love his bashful smile...

He has the same birthday as my son!
(I couldn't think of anything else that hasn't already been said.)

He makes us laugh when all we want to do is cry.

What I like best about Al is that he's never ever punched me in the face before.
