Well that's a tad bit harsh. I agree that it certainly wasn't Al's best, but it wasn't his worst performance ever. I really don't think you should use this performance as a reason to stop liking Al. After all, this was the first time he ever performed "White and Nerdy" live, and it seems like it would be very difficult to perform. It needs some tweaking and retooling, but I'm sure Al will have it down by the time he starts the tour.planetshadow @ Nov 12 2006, 09:24 PM wrote: Worst performance ever.
Maybe I'm growing up when I say that I'm liking Al less and less these days... The Leno performance didn't help things much...

You know, I find that post offensive but probably not for the reasons you might expect. It may not have been Al's finest shining moment, but I don't see YOU getting invited to do the tonight show. It was a career accomplishment, and I'm proud of him.planetshadow @ Nov 12 2006, 07:24 PM wrote: Worst performance ever.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course. And I won't flame you for not liking the performance, or even for not liking Al (though it boggles my mind, since I like him musically and I adore him personally.)
What I find most offensive is that you think NOT liking Al is somehow grown up. I know lots of grown up fans. It is possible to be over the age of 12 and still find Al's music to be funny, entertaining, and dare I say it? Brilliant. Yep, I'll say it: BRILLIANT. If all you see is the juvenile stuff in his humor, then I think you're probably not sophisticated enough to get the subtle, intelligent, and yes - brilliant, humor.
And I always find it offensive when someone comes to a fan forum, with the "too cool for school" attitude that somehow the rest of us are dumb for liking Al. How dumb is it to waste your time hanging out at a fan forum for a guy you no longer like. Sheesh.

Yeah, thanks, Bobbi. As you can see by my initial reaction. I was speechless after reading that review. I just watched my tape of that performance last night, and loved it just as much as I did when I first saw it. I'm a grown-up fan, and I'll remain one for a long time. I don't wanna "grow out" of liking Al. He's a sweet person, funny, and I agree with Bobbi, a brilliant man. What's not to like?
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:
"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11
So awesome!

THANK YOU for changing that title! It was bugging me and I just wanted to let this thread die.
Lots of people seem to feel they "outgrow" Al, and that's fine except to me it sounds more like a loss of a fresh, youthful mindset than anything else.
AL! You ATE Harvey!? YOU ATE HARVEY/??!!

Well Al's music is more childish than it is grown-up, but that doesn't mean it isn't smart or clever...because it certainly is. Al's music may appear to be geared towards younger people, but for me it's an enjoyable let-go from all the other serious, grown-up music that I listen to.

The thing about Al's humor is that it does range from the extremely silly and juvenile (hand-farts, anyone?) to the subtle and penetrating. And they're all there on the same album, and sometimes in the same song.
I don't see how the Tonight Show could POSSIBLY rate as Al's worst performance. Worse than Konocti, where Al & the band nearly got blown into the lake and he had to do the whole show in his baggy Couch Potato jeans? Worse than any of several shows where he pretty much completely lost his voice?
Internet hyperbole.

"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Not to mention most of the members on this forum are over 12, and most of the biggest posters here are adults. Very well put, Bobbi.scottidog @ Nov 13 2006, 10:52 AM wrote: What I find most offensive is that you think NOT liking Al is somehow grown up. I know lots of grown up fans. And yeah, sorry for the annoying title.
