I need to be more excited than I am. I don't know why I'm not all pumped yet. I'm reasonably sure I'll be over the moon with glee once I get to Cosa Mesa, but right now I really feel blah.

Yeah, I'm sure you'll be full of happiness in Costa Mesa.

I'm excited at home, then I feel blah at work. Must be that work thing. I'm sure the day before I leave, I will be full of energy at work too. I was the day before Summerfest, which helped as it was stupidly busy at work that day.

I have to say that funnel cake pales in comparrison to fried dough. It's the same basic concept, but the fried dough has peaks an valleys and there are puddles of melted butter mixed with powdered sugar. Mmmmmm :9~

I just ordered 500 postcards to hand out. They have info on the Star Fund on them. I should get them on the 18th or 19th- so I'll hand them out later in the week.

It cost about $0.16 per postcard. Pretty good price... although I should have thought of it sooner when they were on special at half that... oh well.

Funnel cake. I love funnel cakes. You need to have one. Last time, Cinnamon got me one with strawberries on it. Yummy!
Awwww, I totally forgot about that! I'm glad you liked it! Got something for Princessbob, too, but I forget what. She was such a help with petitions and buttons and stuff :) One day I brought my "Almost as Yummy as Weird Al Dessert" for people waiting in line to try  :S

Well I have decided to push ahead and venture out alone to the OCF from Tucson. I hope to meet some of you when I'm there. I'll be going to the concert on the 19th., and I was hoping someone that lives / drives in the southern California area could give me their opinion about the true headache status of construction on I-5 versus I-15?

I'm driving south to the area around Escondido after the concert, and I was wondering if it was worth going a few extra miles out of the way at the start to use I-15 S in order to avoid the possible construction delays that AAA says could be along I-5 and along highway 78 between Oceanside and Escondido. I'm chosing to travel that night to help avoid actual construction and heavier commuter traffic.

If the construction zones are not a complete mess, I might consider using the I-5. But if it is cut down to two usable lanes and 35 MPH, or some other unknown nightmare for the bulk of the distance, I'd prefer to avoid it.

Also, I'd be happy if anyone would be willing to offer parking / entrance gate strategy tips for the actual fair.

Any help and opinions appreciated. I'm very excited about seeing the show and possible meeting some great Al feinds (friends).

Thanks!

Steph

My best advice is to take the toll road south. I think it's totally worth the 4 or 5 bucks. FWIW, I went to Del Mar on July 4 via the toll road and did not notice any construction troubles on the bits of the 5 that I did travel. The beauty part about the OC Fair is that weekday parking is not that horrible. So just follow all the other hamsters in. On Saturday I might recommend the offsite AAA lot (with shuttle) but I can't remember offhand where it is.

I've never driven toll road. Then again, I'm used to the 5 and 405 after all these years. Once you get to the 78 junction, you could just take surface streets. But with all the construction, you might just want to go ahead and take the 78 anyways- everyone else will be detouring via surface anyway.

As far as parking at the fair goes, it's usually worth the extra few bucks to get the preffered parking if you're only going the one day. Otherwise, bring your hiking boots!

Do you have a ticket for that night? Or were you planning on standing in line for the afternoon?

OK aside from the Fair and the Al shows, what other fun things are there to do in that general area? NOTE: I have no car.
