Hey Dave!

What did you mean by: "And if he could include those videos, then why not also include "Green Eggs and Ham"???"

Am I to take it that a GE&H video of some kind was actually produced? If so, where did it appear!?

It was something Al did on an old Al-TV special. Marty Lick has it available for viewing on his website.

Do a google for Al-oholics Anonymous, or just follow the link from weirdal.com. It's a great site with lots of AL info.

I've actually been to Al-oholics Anonymous before but didn't realize the name of the guy who made it, and hadn't stumpled on the GE&H video yet.

Thanks for all the help evrybody! :bigups:

Of course we don't know the details of Al's deal, but from what he has told us, that wasn't required.

We do know that The Videos were planned for re-release and then were scrapped for unexplained reasons. I think you are right about it being done for the Aussie tour, at least that was partly the reason. Otherwise why rush it for a street date tha coincides with the tour?

I suspect Zomba wanted to re-release The Videos to coincide with the PH tour. It's the only thing in their Al catalog that was unreleased and they saw a way to make some money on it. But when the CP video fell through it made more sense to not remake the old collection (which wasn't complete) and to just make one that was complete. At least that's my theory.

Any which way, I'm happy to have it in my collection.

The GE&H "video" was NOT from ALTV. It was from ALMusic, the Canadian version of ALTV. I believe it was in 1993.

Well, I think the chronology was a little bit different from that.

1. "The Videos" set for rerelease on DVD (and VHS)
2. Al starts wrapping up production of "Poodle Hat"
3. "Couch Potato" is planned for the first (and only) video
4. "Poodle Hat" release announced
5. "Videos" rerelease pulled in favor of an all-new collection to feature "Couch"
6. Remastering work begins on the older videos for the new collection (this is my educated guess)
7. Al learns that Eminem is against the idea of a "Couch" video
8. In order to have some kind of visual representation for the album, the "Bob" segment is shot for the "Al-TV" special
9. With work already started on an all-new "complete" collection, it is decided to count "Bob" for the sake of the DVD having a new "video" from "Poodle Hat"

And of course, we all know the rest about the bare bones release for Australia, etc.

The reason I'm guessing #6 happened because it was a while after "Poodle Hat" was announced and even released that the "Ultimate Video Collection" was announced. At the point that Eminem nixed the idea of a video, all Volcano had done (as far as we know) was pull the "Videos" rerelease.

So unless some money was already put into producing a new collection, Volcano could have simply resolicited "The Videos" after the Eminem situation.

That's not so different from my scenario. :P

But you are probably more correct than I am. Still it must have been a fairly short time for the entire production, or wouldn't the Aussies have gotten the same stuff we did? Unless of course there were licensing issues that couldn't include Australia.
