...I really doubt if he uses the same lyric twice within a span of several years that he is cross refrencing another song....I really doubt that when Al says 'it' somewhere in RWS, he's making some cross refrence to an 'it' somewhere in Alapalooza e.e

I think most of the examples of AL referencing his own songs mentioned here, except perhaps for the "The Check's In the Mail" example from the original post, are not so much deliberate cross-references by AL, but just coincidental uses of similar lyrics.

For example:

"One of Those Days" - "and my hair is on fire"

"Ode To A Superhero" - "even if his hair was on fire"

I think AL was trying to make a rhyme, more than a cross-reference.

Now, the one that started this thread could be deliberate, by your definition, as "The Check's In The Mail" is a song title from the same ALbum as "Stop Draggin My Car Around" so they weren't years apart, and the reference is to the title, and not a random lyric.

Possible Poodle Hat clue on UHF!

The audio commentary, when Al and Jay are talking about character names and their origins, Al mentions he chose Bob, because it's a palindrome.

Seems to me that song was sitting in one of his famous notebooks by then waiting to be recorded (Or already recorded)
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

Since I listen to PH on my CD player I can't help but think in WDTAHTM he's saying, "BOB", and not "BOP".

And haven't I always said Al never has to rhyme if he doesn't wants too?

Huh? He doesn't say "Bob" or "Bop" anywhere in that song. He does say "Rob."

Sorry I meant the chorus(...or bettween the chorus and the...that part with the...whatever) which is actually...

Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba ba

Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba ba

Ba ba ba ba, ba ba

Still sounds like BOB to me, and don't forget Bob is a nickname for Rob (which he did mention in the part bout the car crash).

Yea but that chorus is a reference to Ben Folds Five's song "Army" which uses similar "ba"s to create a really cool effect (especially listen to his Live CD to hear this)

This ones a little vague, but theres two.

in "Albuquerqie"

Just runin and runin and runin like a constipated weirner dog

in "A Complicated Song"

Why'd you have to go and make me all constiplated?

In "Albuquerqie"

And he gave me a colonic irrigation

In "A Complicated Song"

Should I take laxidives or have my colon irrigated.

Also in both songs he talks about braking up with a girfreind, but they're not really related.

Well, in that case, he named the lead song for Poodle Hat after a line in UHF ^^;
