I always thought VH1 should do a wannabe show. That way I could be the guy they get for Al :whoot:

Chloe, that would have been "VH1 Goes Inside The Arsenio Hall Show", a one hour retrospective of the groundbreaking talk show starring Arsenio Hall which ran from 1989 to 1994 and won two Emmy awards. Arsenio's antics struck a chord with a fairly large percentage of America's youth and the "wanna-be-hip" crowds at that time; instead of the boring antics of Carson and the "establishment" Letterman, here was a guy who represented the new popular element in American culture. In its time, the show was a monster hit, and for its part signified a new trend in television entertainment away from the Borscht Belt sensibilities of the older [and dying] TV establishment and toward a more modern framework [for better and for worse].

Al had appeared on Arsenio's show twice -- once in July of 1989 to promote his movie UHF, and once in July of 1992 to promote the Off The Deep End album and perform "Smells Like Nirvana" and "You Don't Love Me Anymore".

The VH1 show about Arsenio actually premiered on VH1 in January of 2003, and has been shown many times since, including 1 AM this morning, which is probably when you saw it. And on the show, "Al offers quick sound bytes at the very beginning of the show, plus about fifteen minutes in (right after the first commercial break), and about fifty-seven minutes in (but keep recording until the end!) " [thanks Greg!]

Click here to find out when VH1 will supposedly rerun the show (which at this very moment it claims will be Thursday Sep. 15th at 4PM Eastern/3PM Central) -- but as all of us here know, the likelihood of VH1 sticking to its "schedule" is about the same likelihood as a roomful of chimpanzees typing out the full Gettysburg address ... it could happen, but I would bet the farm on it, and if it ever DOES happen, it'll be a long time coming .... <_<

If you'd like to discuss what you thought about the show or had questions about it, it already has its own thread.
Click here to read the thread or add to it.

Hope that helps, Chloe! And welcome to the Forum!
