QUOTE Wow, you got one quicker than me, OE. I sent a fan letter last April and yet....nothing.

April of 2002? Ouch! There is apparently considerable room for improvement in the mail-wrangling end of the Al operation. I think Volcano DOES need to put another wight or two on the job besides Jeff.

I have an autographed pic of Al from CPFOA. I think it took 6 months for me to hear back from CPFOA. I didn't know I was going to get the picture. I knew nothing about CPFOA, and had sent the letter to find out about a fan club. We all know there kinda isn't one. I treasure that pic. When does Al sign publicity photos? Does he have them in a stack after shows? Did I not get the memo?? I'm only asking because OE, you said you'd rather get a signed pic in person. I would, too. But I still love my pic I got from CPFOA, and it has been in the same place on my fridge since the day I got it!

I think he signs publicity photos whenever he can fit it in. I know I saw an article (was it the Icon profile?) that mentioned him signing stacks of photos at the same time he was editing stuff for the Weird Al Show. Quite the multi-tasker.

No, there aren't stacks of photos at shows. Al's given me two autographs, one of them on a copy of some of the stuff I wrote for the star campaign and the other one on the CD booklet in May. And the CD booklet has his picture on it, and he personalized it, so I guess that counts as an autographed photo, and I'm a happy camper. I know that autographing things is a part of the celeb gig that Al's quite willing to do, but I prefer the idea of being present when he does it so I can thank him. :)

Yeah, I guess we are the fan club, but it does say at the Mothership that QUOTE there is no real Fan Club at the moment. I still think it's neat that he does sign all those pics for those who can't get out to see him or want one to come in the mail. What made getting mine so special to me was that I wasn't expecting it. But if I ever do find out he's signing pics somewhere near me, I definitely want one signed to me in person. And I'll be able to thank him, too. Well, thanks, Al, and thanks friendly folks at CPFOA for sending that pic in the mail back in 2000. It made my day, and I was speechless! hehe! Now let's work on that glacier, shall we?

Yup, and I think it's kind of cool that Al's management or Al's record label don't actually have to organize an official fan club because unofficial ones are continually sprouting and flourishing everywhere.

But I think we need a secret handshake.

I'm in the process of writing Al a letter. I don't want some newsletter back, or a signed photo unless he wants to give me one. I'd rather receive like a two sentence typed up piece of paper saying he read it and have it signed by him. Somehow, that would mean more. I understand the volume of fan mail. But I really would like AL to read my letter eventually, and I'd be willing to wait as long as I need to for that to happen...as long as it did one day...

Well, Al has said that he reads every fan letter, and I believe he's a man of his word, so unless and until he says something different about the fate of fan mail, I'm gonna assume that mine will be read eventually.

Like I said before, I understand why Al might take a while getting around to it, but it's the people who open it, burn the parody ideas, etc., who seem to be laggin' a little. Maybe the problem is that the "people" is a "person." An overworked person with other duties besides mail-wrangling. But something could still be done to juice up those aspects of response time that don't require Al's involvement.

True, OE. I do believe Al about reading the mail, that's why I feel a confirmation of that, no matter when it happens, is more important to me than a newsletter or an order form or whatever. Making him smile would make my day...after how many times he's made me *laugh hysterically* a little grin would do me good... Not that I'd be there to see it...

But anyway I hope UHJeff isn't alone. That seems like quite the overload of mail for one overworked guy. You're right, OE, he is probably balancing his own career and family(?) on top of it...you know LIFE stuff...so I respect him for all his time and patience..but I do think a few more screeners could be set up or something because it seems like it would take years to simply stuff envelopes with newsletters, as opposed to even getting Al to read the mail at his leisure!!

I'm glad it's not my job right now. I think I'm crazy enough...

No more fan mail???

Post by Yank27 »

I just noticed that on the liner noted of Poodle Hat, that there wasnt the CPFOA fanmail address like on previous albums. And that address was also taken off of weirdal.com, or I just cant find it. Anyway, can someone tell me about this? Does this mean no more fan mail? I mean, I cant blame the guy or anything. He does have a family now.

Anyway, someone please let me know.
