Dr Demento

Is AL-TV returning or did you find a nice interview? Just tell the folks here.

Interestingly enough, on eBay right now are some items FROM the good Doctor's huge personal collection [alas, nothing from Al :( ]. If you have a few bucks and are really into dementia, go check it out.

Hmmmmm interesting. Does Dr. D sell off his collection on a regular basis? I hope the bottom hasn't fallen out of his house again.

This morning I was going through a big box of unlabeled tapes and I found a cassette of my favorite Dr Demento show ever. It originally aired on Oct 2, 1988 and the special topic was 100 years of Dementia -- celebrating the earliest surviving sound recording (comments by Sir Arthur Sullivan, 1888).

Back in the 80s when I was a hooligan, I used to tape the show every week and save the songs I liked. This was the only show I saved in its entirety (minus the funny 5). It was Dr D in all his glory as a music historian and featured some real gems in comedy music. The playlist can be found here
This means something. This is important.

Taping something off the radio make a person a hooligan? Man am I in trouble. There was a show on in Tucson called Solid Gold Saturday Night that played all these good time oldies hits. I have tons of tapes of that show. I have 2 Dr. Demento shows on tape but the quality is very poor. I also have an audio tape of the Holloween show he does every year at the OC Fair. The quality on that show is pretty darn good. I guess I'm a big ole hooligan

I don't think you're a hooligan for recording a radio show. As long as you don't go and sell it, or put it on internet for everyone to download, you're exempt from hooliganess.

Thank you, I feel Oh so much better. how would someone transfer a cassette tape to their computer? I would love to store these tapes on my drive so I don't ruin them. Any suggestions...and I wont share them or download them I promise!!

Unless you had a special adapter, I wouldn't know how to put a tape recording on the computer... however, I do know there is a way to record. I just forgot how. Sorry. :(

Still, there is a way.
