Yeah, that was my first reaction: "Cool...theme song by Al!"
I'm glad Al is getting all this TV work lately. . .I really am. Thing is, I'm not the biggest TV watcher in the world. I'm sure I'll watch this show (I work for Disney Channel, so how could I not!), but deep down I hope this doesn't keep Al from producing the music that made us all fans of his to begin with.

This is quite possibly the most interesting character we'll have that Al's voiced.
Also, he's getting the theme song? I wonder if he'll be singing from the main character's point of view.
Anyways, I think Dan Povernmire liked Al very much, considering he's done a drawing of him in the past, so it's no wonder he's cast Al to play the main role.
Also, it means more Al music. Come on, who doesn't like Al's songs? They're creative and brilliant. I bet Dan's gonna leave Al to write it himself.

Good point. Dan P. and Swampy Marsh were creators of Phineas & Ferb, and they made it a point to have at least one original song in each episode of that long-running series. So they are clearly fans of comedy music. Now that they have the "real deal" as their main protagonist, I would expect another music-heavy show. I hope they allow Al to write the lyrics to at least some of the music, although I must say their songs in P&F were often quite clever.

Re: Milo Murphy's Law
I guess that explains the picture Bermuda posted a while back of them all in the studio. I'm kind of excited for a new Al song, even if it is just a TV show theme song. The mention of additional original songs interests me too. I know Al sings a lot when he guests on cartoons but the songs usually don't make much sense out of context. I'm also pretty sure Al doesn't write any of them himself, he just sings whatever is on the paper in front of him. So I'm just hoping that maybe him being the title character and the fact that the press release made a point to mention that Milo Murphy will perform original songs, Al will write the songs himself, or at least have some input what his character sings. Ideally I would hope they would be songs that could stand alone outside of the cartoon, though really I'm excited for anything new!

If this show is anything like Phineas and Ferb, the songs will definitely be enjoyable out of context. I've had many of the Phineas and Ferb soundtracks in my iTunes and on my phone for years now, and I still play them from time to time! They're catchy, comedic, and often pretty clever.Elvis wrote: Ideally I would hope they would be songs that could stand alone outside of the cartoon, though really I'm excited for anything new!
Phineas and Ferb is probably my favorite non-adult cartoon of the last decade. It's got tons of energy, a great sense of humor (often metahumor), really fun visual gags, and a diverse (personality-wise) cast of characters that keeps it from getting stale, despite the plot of every episode being pretty similar. Dr. Doofenshmirtz always served as a great cynical and sarcastic (but still enthusiastic) counter-balance to Phineas's optimistic personality, so I never really got annoyed by characters as long as the two subplots were going on. These writers plus Al as the voice of the main character have me confident that this will be a great show. Wish it was debuting sooner than 2017!
I'm with you folks that I hope this doesn't mean we won't be getting traditional Al music in the near future, though. Between Milo Murphy's Law, Comedy Bang Bang and the 2016 tour Al will probably be pretty busy this year, but I hope he'll have time to release a single or maybe an EP if he gets a great idea!

Re: Milo Murphy's Law
This is very cool news! I don't regularly watch Phineas and Ferb but I've always enjoyed it whenever I did catch it. Sadly though I've no idea when I'll be able to see this, all the way back here in Europe, and even then it'll probably be dubbed over so Al's voice will be gone from it (they dub a lot more stuff than they used to, annoyingly).
I'm kinda laughing though because they actually changed the article. It originally called Al a two-time Grammy winner, and mentioned only Eat It and Like A Surgeon. I couldn't let that stand, of course, so I sent in a comment to politely correct them. Apparently they're so heavily moderated that they never posted my comment but they did change the article.
I never mentioned I Lost On Jeopardy or White & Nerdy though so they must have either had more comments than mine or did some additional research on their own.
Oh and, I can never read "XD" as anything other than a laughter smiley... The Internet has truly ruined me.

I must admit this kind of thinking totally escapes me. I mean, who thinks "I could watch episodes right after they air in original Al's voiceover, but that would be totally wrong, so I'll wait a year or so untill they show it on TV with terrible dubbing that also ruins half of the jokes"
