i've been lurking for awhile and had to register to reply to this because i had the same experience! i was in a long-distance relationship and right after i drove almost a thousand miles to spend my vacation with him, i found out he was cheating on me.
I'm a newbie Yankochick.

before Mandatory Fun made its debut, i knew of White & Nerdy and Amish paradise and that was about it. so i had a treasure trove of awesomeness and hilarity to discover! whenever i felt like my heart was breaking i would listen to his albums, watch some of the tour DVDs, cry with laughter at his mock celebrity interviews (and squeal fangirlishly and repeatedly go "awwww he's adorable!" while watching actual interviews with him

). Several of his songs made me literally (yes, literally! :p ) snort because i was laughing so hard.

yes! same here!

Terpsichore, THANK YOU for posting that because
I was Alouette!!
A fellow lurker just like you, I was so shy posting here at that time. Having just come out of that lousy experience (so similar to yours- I'm so sorry!!

), I was nervous if it was okay to be a Yankochick (the term hadn't even been invented yet XD) as emotional and love-wracked as I am, and I kept a secret identity for a while.
Only very recently I got brave and decided I wanted to be myself, and show my Al artwork around and maybe make some nice Al fan friends on the way, too. <3
I react the SAME way as you do to interviews, and all. <3 gosh he is just too much <3
Oddly enough, I gave that old scoundrel of a boyfriend another chance when he came crawling back to me some months ago.
In a total deja vu, again I had the experience of discovering him to be even nastier a jerk than I thought he was the first time around...
And again I found solace, freedom, humor and love in Al all over again. <333 It's funny how Al is always there for us girls, time after time.
