Al does 5-10-15-20 for Pitchfork

Post by algonacchick »

I thought this was pretty cool. It's called "5-10-15-20", but here, Al is asked what music he was listening to, starting at age 5, and going up to age 50, 5 years at a time. He talks about one particular song that he liked at each age, as well as some others. There are links to each of his favorites so you can listen along. Some are in the header, and some are within the paragraph about each age. Very clever interview. I love the pic at the top of the page. :)

4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Great article--I normally find it boring to hear artists talk about their influences and whatnot, but Al always makes for a fascinating read when he discusses his favorite music. Nice Veruca Salt and Letters to Cleo shout-outs!

But remember: the name of this band is Talking Heads. (It's right in his 1985 entry, but not 1980.)

Happy to see that Al and I have so many of the same musical tastes.

Although I've had a tough time listening to Elton John ever since my family went to his show in Las Vegas a couple years ago. shudders

So, Elton wasn't good in concert? What happened? A guy I went to high school with plays bass for him. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is my favorite album. My band does "All The Girls Love Alice". I sing it. Plus, lame claim to fame here, he and I share a birthday.

The concert my family went to see was his Vegas show, so chances are it isn't quite this bad during a normal concert, but it was extremely disturbing and sexual. The first song he played was Bennie and The Jets, which was fine. But then videos started to play on a screen behind him during every song. The first one featured topless women partying and dancing, which I would have enjoyed, but I was sitting with my parents. The videos got more sexual and more disturbing as the show went on. The worst was during Tiny Dancer, which had a video featuring a topless woman, crawling on the floor of her bathroom with a bloody news, slowly dying. I have not been able to listen to that song in particular since. However, most of Elton's music is ruined for me.

I assistant edited that video. Sorry, Joe!

Really interesting article. Al and I have a very similar musical taste, it seems.
My favorite part was seeing that Nina loves listening to "They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!"
I couldn't tell a dirt clod from a plate of caviar.

hey Al it's never too late to record a parody of "Volcano Girls" and then replicate the intense action of the video I'm telling you this could be huge.

Not sure if you're telling the truth or not, (tired and a little drunk), but don't worry about it if you did, haha. Makes for a good story and is funny to look back on.
