Very cool, although I'm surprised "Tacky" and/or "Foil" didn't chart as well.

I think that the fact they weren't put on the VEVO channel caused that.

I agree that delaying them from being on Vevo caused those to chart lower, but without granting exclusivity to the sites hosting them, Al wouldn't have been able to secure financing for video production since the site footing the video bill wouldn't receive as much traffic if the videos were available on Vevo. Ultimately it's the partner sites who footed the bills for all these awesome videos which helped MF chart at #1. In short, Al had to sacrifice the ability to get Vevo views (and charting singles on the Hot 100) to generate funds to make 8 videos so he COULD chart on the Billboard 200.

It looks like Al will still be in the top 5 next week. I think he'll trend towards the 30K mark, since the #1 news seems to have him holding very well on iTunes (currently #2) and Amazon/B&N (#1). Note that #2 through #5 are all within about 10K of each other.

According to Hits:

*5 Seconds of Summer (Capitol) 240-260k
Frozen (Walt Disney) 35-40k
Sam Smith (Capitol) 30-35k
Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 30-35k
“Weird Al” Yankovic (RCA) 25-28k
Ed Sheeran (Atlantic) 20-23k
Now 50 (NOW) 20-23k
Jason Mraz (Atlantic) 20-23k
*Common (Def Jam) 19-21k
*Crown the Empire (Rise) 17-19k
Trey Songz (Atlantic) 15-17k
*Anberlin (Tooth & Nail) 14-16k
Lana Del Rey (Interscope) 13-15k
Miranda Lambert (RCA Nashville) 13-15k
Rise Against (DGC) 12-14k
Brantley Gilbert (Valory) 12-14k

Also, Al is #3 on the new "Artist 100" chart on Billboard which tracks an artist's impact across charts.

Those Canadians love their Rise Against.
How old was that last signature? I mean, really?

So Kidz Bop probably will outsell him for the week.....just no one said which week

As long as we don't have to hear stories about how Al took a historic sales percentage drop or that he set a record from going like 1 down to 58 or something, I'd say this would be pretty good. Could be better (And hopefully he can at least pick up a few more thousand and keep those Kidz away), but this looks like a best case scenario.
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

Al surprised us before, I think he'll surprise us again! I think it's funny that the *second* week chart number for "Mandatory Fun" is still better than any previous ALbum's chart success. That just goes to show you how awesome this ALbum really was. Even the numbers are still good!

I wonder what the chances are of this album going gold? I mean, he's a fifth of the way there (soon to be a fourth of the way there, after next week's sales).

Nah. Drops in the mid 70s are normal now, especially for an album like Al's where it was so heavily pumped the first week by the wave of promo. Mraz is dropping about the same.

Drops in the mid-80s get that "historic drop" attention.

But hopefully from here out the album has legs due to the buzz and word of mouth. I can see him sticking in the Top 20 for more than a few weeks.

Have any singles bubbled under 100? You have to subscribe to see the list I think.
