I love this song, but it's so bizarre to me. I take the actual Jackson Park Express bus to get from the southside to downtown Chicago, and live on 53rd Street. It does make visualizing the song even more fun.

I can see the Cat Stevens connection but I'm also getting Harry Chapin really strong. Perhaps a pastiche of both?

Started going through Cat Stevens discography to see what songs might have inspired Al. So far, I've found that the beginnng kind of resembles But I Might Die Tonight, which I keep expecting to errupt into the words "JACKSON PARK EXPRESS".

Remember the Days of the Old School Yard is definitely in there too.

Has anybody noticed how good this song is?

:P

At first, this one overwhelmed me because I don't always follow lyrics and this is a very direct narrative, so if you don't get on at the first stop you're not entirely in on the joke. I was also initially put off by how immediately bombastic the song was (knowing that I was in for 9 minutes). However, it has completely drilled itself into my brain over the past week...I find myself reciting every word along with Al and that's not even something I normally do! I woke up with it in my head today, I was muttering it to myself at work, I can't get enough!

I think it's my clear favorite of his epics. The previous champ would be "Biggest Ball of Twine..." (which I do love dearly) but this is such a funny idea once I wrapped my head around it, and the music itself is wonderful. I love all of the instrumental punctuations and the Waters Sisters add a really nice, odd touch (when was the last time they were on an Al album, btw? My namesake? Or were they on Weasel Stomping Day too? ).

After 4-5 listens, this one has become one of my favourites. Hilariously unsettling!

Definitely reminded me of that Conchords song, as well.
