6/24/13 (MNTAM Book Tour) Houston, TX

Post by OneWAY »

Al is coming to Houston for the book tour! Even though I was really hoping to hit a show this year, this will definitely be fun! It's at a bookstore called the Blue Willow Bookshop. I will be going there for sure!

I've been meaning to get one of our copies of "When I Grow Up" signed, but I'm sure my little sister will appreciate this! I might bring her along, but the trip from San Antonio to Houston can get pretty lengthy, so maybe I'll just see if Al will do a special video greeting for her. Anyone else plan on going to this one? This is part of a one week book tour; looks like Al's going to be doing a lot of driving next month!

This is the event page for this:

http://www.bluewillowbookshop.com/event ... D-yankovic" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Do note, though, that the book store and the address given for the event on the event page is NOT the same although it is basically down the street from one another.
I can see why because the book store itself is not that huge and Al might draw a crowd :)

That being said, I've been to Blue Willow Bookshop for a book signing. It's a cool place. They had the book reading outside and the signing inside the time I went. I don't have any need for the book not having kids near this age but considering it will probably be 2 years before I will see Al in concert in the area, I may show up at this anyway!

I think Al will be doing more flying than driving during the one week book tour. :D

Here's a link from a Houston news station showing yesterday's book signing http://www.khou.com/entertainment/Weird ... 59081.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We got there kind of late at 4:15 and after purchasing book plates for Al to sign (the book store had run out of My Teacher and Me), they had us wait in a small theater at the Community Center. The person running the event had a short Q & A session with Al at 5:00 p.m. in the small theater with all of us, and then they started the book signing in the little library on site. I was so glad we were able to wait seated indoors. It was 100 degrees in Houston yesterday. We all had signing line numbers. They asked that we request only books to be signed, and no memorabilia, and there was an option to have the signature personalized. Al signed both books we brought with us, and the book plates, and we got a couple of pictures. When our books arrive at Blue Willow, they will insert the book plates, and then, ship the books to our house. :D

Now that my IP problems seem to be over, I can post about this! My son and I got there about 4:15 also but there was confusion from a new employee about how things worked, especially since there were no more books left(sold out!). I finally got a signing number but it was 131 but when I was telling some people about the confusions, the owner put us in the line earlier! They were really making quick work out of the signing because Al had to leave at 7:30 to catch his plane. The one thing about the faster pace was that I did not have time to be nervous. I said something stupid to him about how tiring it must be to sign all those autographs then thanked him. We got our pics and then that was it! Oh, and he's pretty in person #AIH

You can see me giving Weird Al my dissertation, which is about musical humor and includes an entire chapter on Weird Al, at 1:48 in this video!

You can view my dissertation online at http://etd.lsu.edu/docs/available/etd-0 ... esdiss.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I drove with my family all the way from Baton Rouge to Houston (because it was the closest city on the tour to Baton Rouge). It was so worth the experience of getting to meet Al and shake his hand. He's been such an inspiration to me!
