Re: Weird Al Super Bowl Halftime Show
I think he'd HAVE to have at least portions of Eat It and Fat (the songs that EVERYONE knows him for), AP and Smells Like Nirvana (the gateway Weird Al songs for guys now in their prime sports-watching, commentating, show-reviewing, opinion-molding years, plus, cheerleaders, of course) and Saga Begins (for the stormtroopers, as mentioned). And, since it's the freakin' Super Bowl, I think he could come up with a brand-new, fresh polka just for that event, with the current hottest songs as of Jan 2013, instead of the hottest songs as of May, 2010. And if there was a way to do costume changes, Al would manage it.

Re: Weird Al Super Bowl Halftime Show
I've been thinking about this ever since I saw this on The Bleacher Report (hey, sometimes CRACKED links cool stuff from there)
I would think that they would mutually agree for Al to do some of his more recent stuff from "Alpocalypse" and SOL and include at least one original for the audiences sake (not everyone is aware that half of his catalog is already originals) so here is the setlist I envisioned.
Polka Face
TMZ
CNR
Canadian Idiot
White And Nerdy
I also imagined them not having as much time for costume changes as Al would on his tour which would also influence the setlist a little.

See this is exactly what I meant by appeal to the mass audience. The Super Bowl is hardly the place to remind everyone about Al's diverse catalog. Even when the Rolling Stones played, they did Satisfaction.Killingsworth wrote:include at least one original for the audiences sake (not everyone is aware that half of his catalog is already originals)
I think he absolutely has to do Eat It, Smells Like Nirvana, and Amish Paradise. I doubt whether he would do Fat because of the costuming. It's conceivable if he ever actually did play the Super Bowl he would have a new Fat suit made that is hard to put on but rips right off and then he would start the show with Fat, rip the suit off and he has the Cobain sweatshirt, rip that off and he puts on a beard, hops on a Segway with a gold chain, puts on an Eat It jacket, then closes with Yoda. That would be a hell of a freaking halftime show, man...

Weird Al Super Bowl Halftime Show
Man just envisioning it is awesome. But knowing Al headlining the Super Bowl would never happen. We can't even get him a star on the walk of fame and we would pay for it. The only thing I could see is an artist he parodied inviting him on and surprising everyone

Even a new, short parody about the Superbowl itself could work...

Re: Weird Al Super Bowl Halftime Show
Agreed on the new polka idea. Polka Face is good, but I think everyone has heard those songs enough, and by 2013, nobody will find it funny anymore.
He's definitely gotta do his most popular stuff, too, but I don't think SLN should be included. I don't think the joke in the song is obvious enough that such a mass audience would get it. Amish Paradise, Eat it, Fat, and White & Nerdy are a definite yes. Not only are those are pretty much the songs he's known for, but everyone will understand what he's talking about.
OH and since Madonna performed this year, I think it would be neat if Al also did Like a Surgeon!

Re: Weird Al Super Bowl Halftime Show
I'd have him do a medley of:
Amish Paradise - duet with Coolio
Smells Like Nirvana - with guest bass player Krist Novoselic and guest drummer Dave Grohl
Eat It - dancers dressed up as in the Beat It video and a Michael Jackson Beat-It-era impersonator. Maybe some competitive eaters stuffing their faces throughout the song as well.
White & Nerdy - with a ton of nerdy dancers and segways.
Perform This Way - duet with Lady Gaga
I agree it would be tough to do costume changes, but I think they're needed, so "pauses" would be built in where something else is going on to allow time for costume changes, and costumes would be redesigned to allow for super quick changes. I'm assuming money is not an issue and he's got a team of the best wardrobe people on the planet available to him to pull that off. The "pauses" would be things like Coolio rapping at the end of AP, Nirvana doing a jam, Michael Jackson impersonator dancing and moonwalking, and W&N dancers dancing nerdily or some elaborate segway routine.

Re: Weird Al Super Bowl Halftime Show
I envision Al riding in on an ostrich. It's a grand entrance to top all grand entrances. Following that, 'Perform This Way' with guest Lady Gaga (who gets her own ostrich as well), a polka medley of current hits, ending with a Kinks reunion for Yoda with chant. Yoda would also feature a gathering of kids (or midgets!) with Jedi robes, Yoda masks, and lightsabres choreographed for both the song and the chant. And maybe an army of lederhosen clad men dancing for the polka medley. A superbowl halftime show that is both new viewer friendly but very Al.
