When I was picking up my tickets, I asked (because I didn't remember) "Is either of these an aisle seat?" She said, "No, but we have one... in the first row." So I surrendered mine, bought the first-row. Woot! And then I turned out to be sitting next to Dave & Jackie. No way am I going to the casino, I've already had my full day's allotment of luck right there.
It is so much fun to watch an Al show close up. You can see all the subtle facial expressions, and little stuff like Al holding his palm up & flexing his fingers as though holding the ripped out beating heart from CNR. And I was right in front of Jim, so I could watch his fingers fly. Amazing. He had posted on Facebook that he was going to be depending on muscle memory since this was the first show after the time off... all I can say is, his muscles have a prodigious memory. The front rows of this show were filled with die-hard, sing-along fans, which always makes it more fun.
I think I'll get breakfast tomorrow at the establishment where the snotty barista works, the Starbucks on East Craig Road. It's right across the street. I'm hoping to get a really early start and beat the traffic back to LA. Kind of a flying trip, but I saw a great show and got to visit a bit with a lot of friends (thanks for opening your home, Kelley!)
Thanks for the review Helen. Surprised there are not more accounts posted already. On Twitter I saw that some of the seating further back was far from ideal and some people were asking Al not to play that venue again.. Obviously from the front its hard to get an overall feeling of whats going on at the back but I have to say I have rarely seen so many dissatisfied tweets after a gig (not to do with the music, just the venue)

I checked after you posted this, and I didn't see any negative tweets at all by searching for @alyankovic or #weirdal. Must have all gone down the memory hole already. Or did you search by the venue name?ludovica64 wrote:On Twitter I saw that some of the seating further back was far from ideal and some people were asking Al not to play that venue again.. Side note: I did get breakfast at the Starbucks across the street, and the person who served me mentioned that a lot of people who work there went to the show. Wonder if they're spending today trying to figure out which of them is the snotty one.

MissyMoo38 and I had a great time with Kelley and Will, who are wonderful hosts and great friends! It was also great to see Dave and Jackie again as well as Vikki, Carlotta, and Helen and meet 3 of Vikki's kids at Kelley's open house. We also managed to meet Interrobang and his dad and get a quick snapshot before the concert started and say a quick hello to Peggy.
We were lucky to get to chat briefly with Bermuda and Steve when we saw them around lunch time at The Cannery. I think our concert experience was tainted by the seating issue. When you sit in the front row, you have high expectations. However, we were seated at the extreme right of the stage and had to look very high up and to the left all night to view the stage and the big screen above us, which combined with being very close to the speakers, gave us all headaches and neckaches by the end of the night. The videographer was constantly blocking our view and the bar waitresses were crossing in front of us frequently as well. The setlist was pretty much the same as the Costa Mesa concert although there was no YDLMA or WBYH and Al wore the neon flowered jacket with black tee shirt and black pants for WBUL and the other band members just wore plain black for it. Then he wore the yellow jacket over black for Beverly HIllbillies. There were 2 drum solos and Steve left the stage for the second half of TSB, coming back at the end without his bass, not sure why.
There was an R2D2 remote controlled unit for TSB as well as Vader and Stormtroopers. We saw a couple of the Stormtroopers and the R2 after the concert while waiting by the buses and took some photos and video with them. We got an autograph and photo with Jim after the show and were lucky enough to talk again with Bermuda before leaving The Cannery.
It was a wonderful way to spend the weekend and we are very thankful for the opportunity to make more new friends. Thanks everyone for making it special for us!

Fun show, I didn't mind the venue or my front row seats, kind of wish the whole thing was outside though. One or two new video clips but basically the same show as Lancaster. Nice to see so many familiar faces and a few new ones.
Got good lengthy conversations with Bermuda, Jim, and Al after the show, and a quick wave from Steve. Everyone seems pretty excited to be back out on the road.
A few notes for the merch collectors. The Alpocalypse shirt has new 2011 dates, and there's a brand new shirt, the pic of Al holding that wheel thing. Also two new free cards, one of WIGU cover, and one of the new blue ray cover. Also, for the card collectors, there are 12 new cards, one for each song on the album, bu they're being mixed in the packs and boxes.

There are some pro photos of the Cannery show here, plus the interesting tidbit that 28 of Weird Al's albums have gone gold or platinum. I want to know, where can I buy those OTHER 15 albums?
