I voted that the video hurt it becasue most non-Al fans were probably scared away by the video. Especially the idiots who think that he has female body parts. I know if i was not an Al fan i probably would have not gone anywhere near the video.

But as i was reading through everyone elses opinions I think its probably a mix of things. He probably felt the pressure to put out something as big as W&N so he was probably trying too hard to put out what he thought would be a monster hit. If he didnt try as hard he probably would have gotten the big hit. Even he himsrlf once said that he thought pentiums would be big and that he did not think that W&N would be as big as it was. There probably were many songs that he could have parodied that could have been better. I am no where as smart and talented as him so i will not list any except for the fact that if he took Snoop Dog up on his offer it ptobably would have been big. Wether if it was a parody of California Girls or something else, an Al/Snoop collabo would have gotten a lot of attention. Also, the song and video were done very quickly and if he had more time to make it maybe it would have had something else that made it better. And the fact that by the time the video was out the song had been out too long so people probably didnt care anymore.

I think most of the reasons posted above are valid. The thing about Perform This Way is that it wasn't just one thing that caused it to underperform. There were a myriad of factors in play, and I think it just came down to the point that Al was trying too hard. And had passed up on so many other hits for the perfect one, but when it got to be sooo long, he wanted something now. And with all they hype around Gaga, felt that it would have lasting potential.

I do expect it to fade out in the concerts in a couple tours.

I personally think its because Al just took waaay too long period. He took so long that, in fact... when I finally heard the song and realized it wasn't that funny.. I was a little let down.... but thats what we live with in a time where Al becomes such a perfectionist that nothing becomes good enough and he starts chasing fables....LOL.. but enough of that.... I still like the song and it still Al making an attempt at a song.. so Its fine by me and I never skip through it when listening to the ALbum....
