Re: Favorite 'early years' songs?
ludovica64, a vast majority of the circulating demos are fantastic quality - perhaps you're just hearing bad versions?
I mean, the common versions of "Dead Car Battery Blues" and a few others were intentionally distorted by a fan so that he could uniquely have 'clean copies'; but the clean copies are in circulation now (mainly thanks to, um, that CD I did that I can't mention).
Okay, I'll be REALLY cruel - I've been secretly working on "Greetings From Burgerpolis: The Secret Executive Edition". No, I CAN'T CIRCULATE THIS, but big teaser that I am, here's the tracklist:

Good Old Days, probably.
It doesn't matter if I do things for a reason, or on a W-H-I-M... Just stand back and enjoy the show, cuz baby, I perform this way!

Re: Favorite 'early years' songs?
Mad Genius, there is a much more comprehensive set out there, I believe its up to 8 discs now. Lot of versions of the same songs, but still huge and includes a ton of rarities.

Yeah, honestly that two disc set isn't that impressive compared to what's out there.

Just a little excerpt of it. Readily available, if you know the right people.

I haven't heard any of them, so I'll jump on the Billy Joel bandwagon.
How old was that last signature? I mean, really?
