Before Al came to the UK I tweeted him to be really careful because I knew he was going to get sick. He's never been here before and has zero resistance to all our billions of different strains of illness. Sure enough he got really sick right away. I hate it when I'm right. By the time he was in London he was on some hefty antibiotics just to keep going. Granted it was some of the coldest weather we have had in many years and the very air was a veritable soup of sickness though. Its not surprising at all he was ill

You need to be prepared to wait until you see the departing bus lights. It's not guaranteed that Al will ever do a m&g, but if you don't wait, it won't matter if he does or doesn't. You'll miss him. The good news is, that Al seems to enjoy doing these when he can. He genuinely likes interacting with his fans, so if it fits his schedule, and if he's up to it, there's a good chance of meeting him.

Generally, if you hang around the venue before and after, you may not see Al, but you stand a really good chance of meeting the other band members.

Yes that is true. I remember at one of the concerts i went to at kings island me and my friend went out to the main area to do something and on our way back in my parents came up and said that they saw Jim and we needed to go run to catch up with him and we did and got an autograph. I have no idea what i said to him but i know i was so excited.

It seems to be easier to meet the band than it does Al. They seem to go out wandering around before showa

Mostly because the general public won't mob them. Al is the celebrity so he needs to be a little more careful hanging out

I think the majority of fans who go to a Weird Al concert are casual fans, who probably don't even know the names of the band members, and wouldn't recognize them if they walked by. Only a small percentage of the audience are the more hard-core fans who would recognize them when they're off the stage.

Just to clear up a thing or two.-

I'm not sure I ever said there's no way to meet Al, but being my guest is no guarantee that you'll get to see Al.

That said, my guests are by invitation only, and consist of friends, family, and industry contacts (drum company people, etc.) I don't know for sure how the other guys handle pass requests, but giving passes to people we don't know is awkward at best. Please don't feel slighted if you do ask and are declined. The price of admission includes the show - and it's darn fine show according to all reports! - but that's all anyone should expect. If Al has an open meet & greet after the show, that's his call.

That said, there aren't really any rules about when an open meet & greet will happen. Travel plans, venue policies, and sometimes Al's workload govern whether it's even do-able. So it's unfair to blame Al if it doesn't happen, there are occasions where it's simply impossible.

As pointed out, it's not too difficult to run into the band after the show. If it's me or Steve or Jim or Ruben you actually want to see, odds are you will without the need for a pass. I don't know the percentages of how often Al has a meet & greet, but the chances are also good.

Thanks for understanding!

Thanks for posting that, Jon. Of coure we actually want to see you! In my experience, Jim is the hardest one to catch. Of all the times I've done the meet n greet thing, I've only caught up with Mr. West once. Every other time, he's outta there!
