Do you just have to have connections and know someone either associated with Al or the Venue? or do you just have to get lucky
That's a good question as well. Apparently the band doesn't hand them out at least that's what Bermuda told me.

Passes are entirely at the discretion of the band/crew and if you're lucky enough to have one, take it as a HUGE compliment in itself. It means you are the personal guest of the person who granted you the pass, and thats the only person you can reasonably expect to see. Anything else is a bonus.

There is no other way to get one, as far as I know than by

a. winning some promotional contest on local tv or radio
b. being the invited guest of a band or crew member
c. being involved in the show somehow, eg 501st Legion, Cheerleader, Segway technician

Most of the people who get passes have been friends with the band for many years or have developed close ties with them in other ways through shared interests and stuff like that
Most of the photos you see are of people who have met Al by the bus and are not pass holders

That big ol' bus, I got pretty lucky this morning. I was pretty happy to go to bed with meeting the band, and had already given up on meeting Al, but that was the best hotel checkout ever!! We also happened to pull out right after them and were heading down the same highway for quite a while, was preety hilarious knowing exactly which bus they were on and when we branched off we could see Bermuda like beside the driver, probably navigating or something, so we gave him the heavy metal devil horns!
What a racket they're makin', Jack, they keep me up at night playin' their electric guitars!!

In 1999, Bermuda was running a contest for each city they were going to. You wrote your name in and you and a guest were put on a list to meet them. My brother won, and we got to go backstage. Al was pretty busy, but I got to watch him make a phone call for a girl. She liked a boy and asked Al to get him to go on a date with her. She gave Al his phone number and Al called the guy. He asked him if he'd ever want to go bowling with that girl. It was pretty funny. Most of the time I was backstage was spent speaking with Bermuda. It was a very cool experience.

Since I was sick a little bit this week i started to wonder how many times a day Al and the band must wash their hands so they dont get sick while on the raod. Just think, they are around lots of people every day and if they shake or hug a fan and that fan is sick. They must be germ a phobes while on tour.

Really glad i have gotten better for this weekenf though :)

I think Al said something once about going through Purell in large quantities. Can't remember where.

If I was really sick, I'd maybe say hi and not come in contact with them at all.

I'm not fully sure on that one.
