The Setlist 2011

Post by minnick27 »

Ever since I heard of the shortened summer tour I figured Al would tour next year as well. He usually does two summers in support of the album. Although now I'm thinking since he toured in the winter and spring he may be shortening so he can be with his family.

Since the announcement that the PTW single will be "rush released" to iTunes next Tuesday, I think it's more likely that Al will add it to the setlist this summer and yes, Suzanne's tweet does sort of obviously point to a possible video/performance prop. As far as the setlist goes, I could see the argument for DTBS or SNL getting bumped to make room for PTW but I would most like to see YP take a hike as it has long worn out it's welcome. Skipper Dan will probably stay as it is on the new album. Maybe the rotating originals could get changed to include a new unheard original or two that Al wants to perform. "Hog" will also probably go and Craigslist will most likely take its place before WBUL. The medley will probably go through some serious changes as well. Canadian Idiot will probably be dumped there between Bedrock Anthem and "Bus" or replace "I'm N Luv Wit Da Skipper." Confessions and "Drive-Thru" will most likely be replaced with two or three supporting parodies from the album. Obviously, PTW will be put in between W&N and "Fat".

Back when Couch Potato was the medley opener I figured Al could've moved You're Pitiful to the medley right after it. Al could've fulfilled the shirt gag easily that way and he wouldn't have to completely remove it from the setlist.

With they way the medley is now, Al would have to run to the back of the stage and grab a bunch of pre-layered shirts for that; kinda like Al did "In Luv Wit Da Skipper" last year. It could still work, but I guess it would seem pretty awkward.

Well, if the Pitiful short didn't hand its end gag...it wouldn't have any near of the same effect just with shirts. And I don't see that being possible for a spot in the medley...unless he would want to have the costume on the whole time. But, that would be really hard to wear the whole time I would think...

I think it's safe to say that if You're Pitiful does move into the medley, he will have to do so without the shirt gags. Simply unreasonable to do that many quick changes in such a short time. If I had to guess, I'd say YP would be more likely to be completely removed from the setlist. The song is old and it doesn't help Al sell any albums.

I agree he should scrap You're Pituful. I dont think he'll switch around the medley too much or remove Canadian Idiot and Hog because they are short, easy crowd pleasers. Just like Dare To Be Stupid those should be there still! Actually, could do without Ebay, its funny, but I wouldn't miss it. If the classic original slot must change it should definitely be other classic originals which take its place.
What a racket they're makin', Jack, they keep me up at night playin' their electric guitars!!

Has there been any reason given for why when the album is released on June 21, why Al is stopping touring then? And taking a break until September?

There must be some big project or event taking place.

I figured Al was taking the summer off to be with his family. Nina is already 8 years old, and he was away on tour for 3 out of the past 4 summers.

Yeah, that's cool and I'm glad if it is. He definitely deserves to have time with his family.

I just think something more is up that we're not being let in on. I just don't know what. Why would he pick right at the time the album is being released, at the height of his popularity for the past five years, to take time off? I think that would have happened last summer.
