The Couch Potato controversy helped W&N to become Al's best-charting single ever, so maybe they wanted to replicate that success, this time with an even bigger artist. I know it's an disgusting thing to accuse them of, but with everything that's happening right now, it's looking more and more apparent to me. Scream me down if you want, but I'm genuinely scared that they might have destroyed an innocent woman's career for financial benefit.

Jay Levey, a manager for “Weird” Al Yankovic, said on Wednesday evening that permission had been given for “Perform This Way” to appear on Mr. Yankovic’s new album. An update was expected to appear on Mr. Yankovic’s blog.
Well, the only way he wouldn't have this become the lead single is if he went ahead and released it on iTunes and whatnot, leaving the position on album 13 still available.
But Al put a lot of effort to get this done, so I kinda think this is it. He said he's already had the video planned out, and he probably wouldn't skip out on the opportunity to make some profits go to the charity and whatnot.

Well, the controversy got Weird Al a lot of media attention, as is happening now. When White and Nerdy was released, you can probably expect that a lot of listeners heard of him for the first time during the CP scandal.
I know this is a far-fetched theory, but it does deserve some consideration. I agree the whole charity spin is too close to home to be made up, and that was the part that racked my brain the most, as Lady Gaga is the last person in my mind who would turn down an offer to help the cause of human rights. But this entire ordeal has been confusing for me, and I'm probably just spurting nonsense in an attempt to make sense of it all.
Oh wait, I got Couch Potato confused with "You're Pitiful". Sorry.
