I wouldn't even call this a political discussion. Why is outright bigotry considered "political"?

A political discussion would be us arguing about whether having an abortion should legal or not. This is somebody spewing hate speech (and then somebody on the forum agreeing with it). I think there's a difference.

Also, political discussions are awesome. This isn't.

"Political discussion is criticism that is specific of or relevant to politics, including policies, politicians, political parties, types of government, etc."

I'm pretty sure this is digressing into a potentially polarizing political discussion. Homosexuality et al is a very touchy subject at the moment, and thus some of us will vehemently agree with the statement, and some of us will vehemently disagree. Your assertion that it is "outright bigotry" is a political opinion (albeit one that many share) but it still is an assertion of politics. As such, there are no politics discussed on this forum, so we may as well not start now. I don't mean to sound dick-ish, but I don't want this thread locked or anything. :)

ANYWAY!

What the heck was the picture that had the baby heads and the glasses? That was just creepy. I assume it was at a junk shop or something!

Supporters of gay marriage often say that the issue is not political; it is a matter of each individual's right to marry whomever they choose.
Opponents of abortion often say that the issue is not political, or even religious; it is a matter of each individual's basic right to life.

If you really don't like the word "political" then just use the word "controversial."

People on both sides of these issues are very passionate about their beliefs, and they have the right to their beliefs and opinions. We don't, however, have the right to insult people because of their beliefs.

This debate over whether we should allow political (or "controversial") discussions keeps coming up, and certain members of the forum continue to turn it into an ugly mess. Name-calling and insulting other members of the forum (or even the moderators) is uncalled for, immature, and downright mean. Some people really need to GROW UP.

So, I agree with comments she makes. It doesn't make anyone right or wrong...it's an opinion. I think it's ridiculous that this world has gotten to the fact where much is not accepted. Of course you find the comments indefensible Jon, you're from California.
Oh, if you were talking about my post, I was just replying to your dislike of Richards. I probably should have cut it to the relevant part, but I thought Kramer was self-explanatory.

Homosexuality is not a political topic. That would be like saying African-Americans are a political topic.

If someone came in here and said they didn't believe gays should be able to get married, and then I or others tried to debate him on that, then THAT would be a political topic, and something that should not be allowed here on this forum. But we aren't debating whether they should be able to get married.

What we have here is someone coming into the forum and saying outright bigoted comments, and now we have people saying that anyone who thinks those comments are inappropriate are the intolerant ones. You have to be kidding me.

I certainly never said that at all. I certainly never called anyone intolerant. All I mentioned is that this is not the place to get in on a political discussion, which, despite some of our efforts, it has. Now we are just arguing about what constitutes as politics.

CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT TWEETS!!!!! :P

In preparation for touring season, I'm going to separate my baseballs, sharpies, and promotional items into their jars. Mad respect Al! Wish I had some disembodied heads...

Really, Victoria Jackson's comments, and whether you agree or not, have nothing to do with Weird Al, so it's off topic. I'm sure there's a WOVJ forum out there somewhere if you want to continue this discussion. Al posted a nice picture of the crew from Australia. I hardly know the crew by name or face, except one guy, but it looks like Al kept pretty much the same crew from the last tour, so it must be nice for them. I've gotta imagine working on the Weird Al tour is a pretty sweet deal for roadies, drama free and all. They're probably pretty loyal, considering they could do much worse.

I bet Al got quite a lot of material from that goofy shop he went to in AUS. Perhaps it's one of those junk art type places.

Well, the tour pic was taken outside of Luna Park. Love that in itself. And yeah, definitely...nice to see the same crew back from last tour. I know a few of them well from so many shows. And since last tour ran so smoothly, it's a nice thing to see. Especially after the stage manager-a-day from the SOL Tour.
