Re: Yanko Opening For Jacko: What Could Have Been

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head, Ryan. I'd assume that is what the set list would look like if Al went on an 1988 tour with Micheal Jackson. Maybe Melanie and Good Old Days could be alternating songs, but I would think Al would go with "Melanie" if he had to choose one. "Good Old Days" might seem a little complex to play every night. Although, he might have wanted to make some room for "You Make Me" and possibly "Alimony". He could also debut a pre-album, version of the Hot Rocks Polka like he did with Polkas on 45 and this tours' polka (depending on when this tour actually occurred). Maybe he would add those songs he only performed once at that 5/16/87 show (A Matter Of Crust/Hot Beets/More Than A Filling/We Won't Eat Another Hero) to the food medley. I wondered why he decided to scrap them after only one performance...were they received as poorly as that 1982 Missing Persons show?

Do you realize how hard it is to get a movie greenlit? At any given moment, there's hundreds and hundreds of scripts in development in Hollywood, and a VERY small percentage of them get made. Many MANY proverbial planets have to align to make it happen, and all those planets aligned in 1988 for UHF. If a writer with no feature experience is brash enough to TURN DOWN a studio's offer to make a movie, he condemns himself to start back at square one again. Had Al waited until after the Michael Jackson tour, the producers or the studio probably would have lost interest, and the opportunity to make it AT ALL very likely would have been gone forever.

In the time since UHF came out, Al has gone on eight tours and made zero movies. I'm glad he made the movie.

Is it just me, or does the title of this thread sound like a porn flick?
