ETA: Which one is you? And congrats on another awesome performance with the Great Weird One!

I am the tallest Scout Trooper out there, on the left of Darth Vader. I have some other costumes, but we wanted to be all matchy-matchy for the show. Plus, Scout Troopers can pull of the best dance moves.

How much direction do they give you as far as specific dance moves, or do they just kind of tell you the types of things to do, and maybe more direction on the strong beats where all the Stormtroopers pose?
I've been fortunate enough to do this on several occasions now. The first time was actually the first time Al had ever had troopers onstage with him, and that time, they let us wing it. We came up with the loose basis that night for what many of the different groups have done ever since, but I think almost everyone adds their own spice. On the next tour we got invited to, they had some basic choreography for troopers to follow, which we'd learn before the show. It's basically exactly what you'd expect (telling us which beats to pose for and which to stay still on)....and it's very similar to what our group did that first time at the Puyallup Fair. Thanks to Youtube (which Al allows us to do for that one song) I can tell that some other groups in other states have definitely gotten more elaborate routines together, and put us to shame. :D

This time around, they knew most of us had been through it a few times, so we practiced on our own. We added some sweet moves this time around, and I was very proud that people were in step with each other almost perfectly. Alas, the video we captured was not very good, so the proof of our "So you think you can dance" quality moves exists only in still photos and our imaginations.

As far as the Nirvana cheerleaders go, we've shared dressing rooms a few times, so I know they usually get a walkthrough of the moves they're supposed to do (I think there's a DVD of it), and then they practice it all day leading up to the show. Unlike us, I think they are usually professional dancers (or at least experienced cheerleaders), so they're always a lot better than we are. I've never seen them do the exact same dance twice though, so I think that like us....they must be allowed to throw some of their own syle in. For example, I thought the ones last night did a lot more jumping than the ones on Tuesday.

It's a lot of fun for all of us, and every time I've gotten to do it, it's been completely amazing. As someone has been going to Al shows since I was a kid, it's a dream come true, over and over again.

I talked to the cheerleaders from my first concert (8/26/08 in Monroe, WA) and they told me their basic dance maneuvers come from some kind of video... which I believe is just the "Smells Like Nirvana" video, but I could be wrong.
8/26/08, 7/15/10, 7/16/10, 7/17/10, 11/5/10, 9/22/11, 9/24/11, 9/25/11, 4/30/12, 10/19/13, 5/19/15, 8/19/15, 8/21/15, 7/16/16, 3/3/18, 3/22/18, 4/20/18, 4/27/18, 6/14/19, 6/15/19, 6/21/19, 9/1/19, 5/31/22, 6/1/22, 9/4/22, 9/30/22, 10/1/22, 10/7/22

The part where Al sings "And the Jedi I admire most met up with Darth Maul, and now he's toast" and you guys then hi-fived each other was GREAT! The crowd literally laughed out loud and I could tell it took Al by surprise a little cause he turned around to see what was so funny, but by that time the hi fiving was over so he looked mighty confused..
I don't even have a kid. I'm 17. Also, I had a great seat. 9 rows from the stage.
Yeah...just pretend I never asked :P
Really? When I saw the show in Puyallup a few years ago, they went NUTS for that song.
Oh the crowd loved it like always, I just think those guys were fans of Nirvana and were a little nervous to see the song live as they didn't like the studio version. But I think the live performance won them over.

True story, there was a guy in front of us on line at the Columbus show that was telling everyone about Al's new movie that was coming out this summer and how much he was looking forward to seeing it. He said he saw the trailer on weirdal.com. Jackie and I didn't have the heart to tell him it was a joke. Of course, he was wearing Al's underwear on his head the whole time, so that probably influenced our decision a little bit.

 I'm curious how many people actually think that trailer is real.

That was my big contribution to the night's choreography....true story.

We heard the laugh, but I couldn't see Al's face when it happened, so I totally missed the look from him. That totally makes my night.

Definitely. Also, since our video of the event totally stunk, none of our buddies in our Garrisons will steal it. :D
