The band flew up from Portland early that morning, so perhaps their initial energy level had to do with having been herded like sentient cattle through a succession of airports. Except that nobody expects cattle to take their own shoes off. I'm not surprised, though, that they managed to reach in and find their inner rock star selves before too long.
edited to add: My bad. The travel day was obviously the day in between Portland and Winnipeg. But it can still suck the life-force out of a person, until that life-force is replenished with a good dose of polka.

Doing city after city after city can take a toll on the best of them. I can understand that.
The show was definitely worth the ticket price.
Hope you get to see the show yourself soon.

I did see the show myself, in Portland. And in Jacksonville, FL, Orlando, Melbourne, Boca Raton and St Petersburg. I had a lot of vacation saved up, and what better way to spend it than seeing a new part of the country and chasing Weird Al around at the same time?

Yeah...I've seen that low energy part of the show before...especially in Jacksonville. It usually is just at the very beginning...then somewhere halfway through they kick back in gear.
I can definitely say that traveling city to city to city really does take a toll on ya. We've done it...and we actually have to do the driving. Sometimes you lose track of days, and if you go through different time zones...you even lose track of time. You just have to shake it off and keep going.
Glad you enjoyed the show...I know last tours was memorable with the first performance of Canadian Idiot in Canada. What were the alternating songs at this venue?

Al performed Canadian Idiot the first time in Canada here in Winnipeg two years ago. I was in the second row and the streamer canon toppled over sending the streamers directly into the audience. The front row got hit hard but several made it to my row and we got pelted with fast moving streamers. I believe that Al was unaware of the canon malfunction.
Anyway... After the song was done he said, (trying to be silly), that we was happy that we didn't kill him for doing that song.
The alternate songs were Frank's 2000 inch TV and The Good Old Days. Two of my favorite oldies.
I wish I had the vacation time and money to chase Al around Canada. That would be fun.
