Jeremy, I'm not very knowledgeable about public transportation in Orange County (I am guessing Kristine would be the one to ask on that), but if you're looking for something to do that isn't too far away from the fairgrounds, I would check out the area of Newport Beach. Very pretty/scenic harbor area; I went there a few weeks ago with my girlfriend and we took a cruise of the harbor and then saw a school of dolphins swim by. Also, it is the town where Arrested Development was supposed to be set, and there are dozens of places to get chocolate covered bananas on a stick as seen in the show.
In general, I would talk to Kristine (or maybe Vikki) about public transpo or other sightseeing opportunities, as well as what else there is to see at the fair this year.

My experience being a nondriver in So. California is you can't really get anywhere unless you have a friend with a car.

My girlfriend doesn't have a car and she gets around Los Angeles quite easily taking the bus. I think you just have to be willing to look up the routes online and try not to think so much about the lives of the other people sitting around you.

Like I said, if I can't get a plan together with my family, I would have a really good ticket for near the front.

Per Kristine's question: I would like to hang out with folks before the show too, if possible. I may have a spare VIP ticket too...

Magic Mountain is 1.5 hours by car... I think you might want to scratch that off the list. Knotts is another 30-40 with traffic.

To put in simply, 90% of the people taking public trans (OCTA) around here are... either have a condition that makes them unable to drive (physical or mental), or they're just plain really really poor. You might want to consider renting a car. But if you want to just take the OCTA busses, there's plenty of cool stuff in Newport to check out. The balboa pier is one of my favorite spots to hang out, and tons of little shops to walk around.

As far as the fair goes, they don't have any sand sculptures this year (budget cuts?). There's a lot of the usual fair stuff to look at, including the competitions like photo, painting/drawing, arts & crafts, produce, etc. If it's hot, the buildings have AC, so they might be a little crowded. Then, of course, there's the carnival area and fair food.

I just called Artist Arena to find out where our tickets are. He said they HAVE been sent out and I should receive them within the next couple of days.

Thanks Jon!
But I thought AA had to turn everything over to PAID. Even the tickets that were already sold?

From what I understand, this particular show is still being managed by Artist Arena simply because it went on sale as such.
