Re: Next Lead Single
The biggest problem is that music today is very much segregated into specific genres, and there is very little crossover appeal amongst different genres. Just listen to the radio today, each station has a specific format ie: Top 40, Rock, Country, Oldies, Urban / Hip Hop, etc. and there's almost no crossover. You won't hear the new Ozzy single on the Top 40 station, you won't hear T.I. on the Rock station, and you're definitely not going to hear a whole lot of Rascal Flats or Keith Urban anywhere but the Country station.
Because of this, very little music today has any true mass appeal. I mostly listen to the Top 40 Pop and Rock stations, and as such I have absolutely no idea who Charmillionaire or T.I. are, and I've never heard any of their songs. Because of this, it's difficult to find that one track he can parody that would really take off.
Another problem is that too many artists today are flash in the pans. Years ago you would hear a lot of the same Michael Jackson or Prince songs on the radio, and they would be in heavy rotation for years after their release. Today stuff comes and goes so quickly and almost nothing has any logevity or staying power.

Re: Next Lead Single
Lady Gaga should be the lead parody.
Just sayin.

spmahn, the flaw in your logic is that one of the station formats you listed is specifically called Top 40. As in the top forty most popular songs. So, yeah. Also I don't know where you live but if Chamillionaire wasn't on your Top 40 station in 2006 there is something wrong with your radio station.
OE, my choice would be Bad Romance, though it's already several months old...

Re: Next Lead Single
"Bad Romance" would probably be the best Lady Gaga song to parody. But I personally would like a parody of "Paparazzi".

Re: Next Lead Single
Around here, when a radio station describes it's format as "Top 40", they typically are referring to pop music and soft rock, no urban or hip hop. The radio stations in Connecticut are completely segmented, there is very little crossover at all. You're not going to hear Charmillionaire and Taylor Swift on the same dial regardless of their position on the charts.TMBJon wrote:spmahn, the flaw in your logic is that one of the station formats you listed is specifically called Top 40. *edit* Now that I look at this further, most of the stations I listen to that consider themselves "Top 40" are really more Adult Contemporary. Regardless, my point still remains the same.

Re: Next Lead Single
Bad Romance, definitely. It's her 2nd biggest hit ever, just behind Poker Face (which he can't use now, obviously.) Plus it's insanely catchy and will be an instantly recognizable song for years to come.
2nd choice: Paparazzi.

Re: Next Lead Single
My second choice would be Telephone if he did a Lady Gaga parody.
I think I read that she plans to release her next album in early 2011 and the title of the album would be announced at midnight on New Years. This could possibly mean her next huge single would be coming out around the time of Al's album, but he may miss that window by just a few weeks.

Re: Next Lead Single
I never saw Telephone as very parodyable... I tried. =P
If he can get her next single that'd be even cooler and he'd definitely get bonus points for being extra timely. Guess we'll see.
