What order did you get the ALbums in?

Hmmm.....well.....

My mom got me the 45 RPM Single of "Eat It" when it came out (1984...I was 10 years old at the time). After that, it wasn't until around 1986 or so that a friend of mine gave me cassette dubs of "Polka Party!" and "Dare to be Stupid" and thus began my true obsession with Al.

As far as bona fide store-bought albums, here's the list as best as I can remember (I might be off a bit...it WAS a long time ago):

1. In 3-D (cassette)

2. Weird Al Yankovic (cassette)

3. Polka Party! (cassette)

4 Dare to be Stupid (cassette)

5. Even Worse (cassette)

6. UHF Soundtrack and Other Stuff (cassette)

7. Peter and the Wolf

(somewhere in here I finally got a CD player!)

10. Smells Like Nirvana/Waffle King (cassette single)

19. Eat It/That Boy Could Dance (45" RPM...I had lost the original my mom gave me!)

21. Like a Surgeon/Slime Creatures from Outer Space (45" RPM)

23. Polka Party! (Vinyl)

Almost to 27! Okay, so I have a bunch of other Al stuff, like bootlegs of hard to find songs and stuff. These are just the "official" things I actually had to pay for (well, except for that first single my mom got me...God bless her!)

Whoa, I guess I have even more wimpy, let me say the smallest for Al fan... You know, I live in Russia, where the whole Al stuff isn't available, so when my Dad (thank him so much!!!

) went to USA, I asked him to buy me some, so now I have

1. Polka Party!

2. The TV Album

not counting, of course, songs that I heard in the Internet.

That's all...

but I'm very happy with them!!!

And I ALso hope that I could increase it... but how???...

I only have Greatest Hits 1 & 2, and I suggest the same solution I gave myself - buy more albums. (Add a capital A and L if you need)

Hmm...

Running With Scissors was definitely first. Then I got a copy of Bad Hair Day from a friend who didn't want it anymore *gasp*...and then I bought all the rest of them in two major shopping sprees with Christmas money, except for GH1, which I still do not own, nor the box set...I do, however, have The Authorized Al and The Compleat Al thanks to eBay, as well as a crate full of taped-from-TV Al goodness that's been built up over the years.

And that has GOTTA hurt.

Just bought UHF & Other Stuff tonight, so I FINALLY have all the original albums.

BTW, I'm pleased to report that the local Best Buy had ALL Al's CDs available except the box set, including both Greatest Hitses and both Cheesy Compilations. And he was filed under Rock/R&B, not Comedy. Anybody know off-hand of another artist with a 20-year career all of whose albums you can buy by simply waltzing (or polka-ing) into the store? Without even having to special-order anything? Way to go, Al!

At the better record stores, you can usually get entire catalogs for Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen. Billy only has 12 studio albums and Bruce has 15 (I think).

Billy Joel has 12 albums? I never wouldve guessed, I only hear the same 5 songs over and over and over. Actually I wouldve thought it was more, considering how long he has been around, though he does keep retiring.

Hey OE, congrats on the acquisition of UHFS&OS. Now you too can know the joy of Let Me Be Your Hog. 16 seconds of auditory bliss that left me wondering: what was he thinking?? But you also get Isle Thing which has a lot of Bermuda's drum virtuosity going for it. I really like the UHF soundtrack. But I sure wish we could have had the little doo wopp ditty that's in the actual movie.

I was in a record store in The Big City today, looking for Dr. D's latest compilation. Didn't find it, but I did come away with the Polkémon soundtrack, so now my polka collection is complete.

Thanks to the technical marvel of the UHF commentary track, we know what he was thinking: he was thinking how much he'd have preferred to use "Kung Fu Fighting." But don't go dissing LMBHH-- he also said it was the greatest song of his career, and of course Al would never joke about his own music.

Speaking of Bermuda, he sure was up late last night answering your question about WA.com. I like Isle Thing too. And I like Spam more than I expected to. "Attack of the Radioactive Hamsters..." is good, but I think "Slime Creatures From Outer Space" is better. Maybe I'm a secret theremin fan. Of course, I'd rather face a real hamster than a real slime creature, but that's the difference between life & art. And "Twine Ball" is just a masterpiece. For a native Californian, Al really nailed the pronunciation of "Minnesota." Listening to the "Hot Rocks Polka" I realized that one of the things that makes the polkas funny is just that Al often sings the lyrics more clearly than the original artists did, bringing hidden absurdities to light. I don't know how often I've heard "Satisfaction" but I never actually noticed the line about "girly action" before. (can you tell I'm not really a Stones fan?) Or, for that matter, the line about the "scarred old slaver." Ewww. But hearing an accordion version of the song made it all worthwhile.
