Re: Still Drooling Over Album 13
Yeah, I hope Blackeyed Peas are not a lead parody but something like Achy Breaky Song would be perfect! I agree too that Ridin wasn't an obvious target yet well known enough to get the job done! Very clever matching of concepts and themes.

Yeah, I don't even remember anyone else on YouTube even attempting a different parody of "Ridin" before OR after W&N was released.Demented Dustin wrote:I agree too that Ridin wasn't an obvious target yet well known enough to get the job done! Very clever matching of concepts and themes.

hmm...it would appear that this "Ke$ha" girl knocked Susan Boyle out of the number one spot on the album charts...I sincerely doubt Al is going to actually parody either one of them, but I'm guessing Al is scanning the charts right now so I wouldn't be surprised if "Tik Tok" wound up in the next polka medley...
Thoughts, anyone?

Since the main thing Susan Boyle is famous for is I Dreamed A Dream, a song originally from Les Mis, I doubt he'll parody her.

Re: Still Drooling Over Album 13
Al rarely if ever parodies songs just because they happened to be at the top of the Billboard charts, usually he goes for songs that enter into pop culture one way or another, or maintain long term popularity. I listen to top 40 radio pretty frequently, and I've never heard of this "Ke$ha" girl before, nor have I ever heard any of her songs. Now I know a lot of that has to do with how strongly the record label is promoting the album, their relationship with Clear Channel and CBS, etc., but just because something is at the top of the billboard charts today doesn't mean it's not going to turn into a flash in the pan tomorrow, and Al tries to avoid parodying those types. In fact if you look, most of the parody's on Al's albums are of songs that are at least a year old, sometimes songs that are 2 or 3 years old, so he usually waits to see if the artist or song has any staying power before he parodies them.caseyk27 wrote:hmm...it would appear that this "Ke$ha" girl knocked Susan Boyle out of the number one spot on the album charts...I sincerely doubt Al is going to actually parody either one of them, but I'm guessing Al is scanning the charts right now so I wouldn't be surprised if "Tik Tok" wound up in the next polka medley...

That an exception since it was a digital download, had Al waited for the new album to release it, the song would have beem over 2 years old. I would even venture at this point that Whatever You Like may nkt even end up on the final album, as Im not so sure Al wants to support convicted felons.Mystik Tomato wrote:Whatever You Like.spmahn wrote:Al rarely if ever parodies songs just because they happened to be at the top of the Billboard charts, usually he goes for songs that enter into pop culture one way or another, or maintain long term popularity.

Re: Still Drooling Over Album 13
Being a mobile DJ I keep track of Top 40 and Kesha is getting fairly good reviews. Tik Tok is fairly popular here in the midwest. It built popularity last fall and still is getting requesting which is rare. She has had one hit so far and expect a couple more from what critics are saying. I can see Tik Tok in the polka (if it is a top 40 type medley). It is not common for a song to be requested and popular for more than a month or so with a few exceptions these days. They say she is a mix of Avril and Lady Gaga.

Re: Still Drooling Over Album 13
I know nothing of this Kesha, but Al doesn't usually go for THE NEWEST act so much as the most ubiquitous. On the last album the only song that hadn't permeated its way to me was Taylor Hicks, but I recognize that I am in the minority for not caring about American Idol whatsoever.
I remember after PH, Al said in one interview that he "had his eye on" Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, both of whom ended up on his next album. So obviously he takes his time in watching how acts progress.
