Patton Oswalt mentioned Al on Conan last week, in reference to his own nomination in the same category. To transcribe:

It's nice to be nominated. The day I got nominated, my manager called me and told me, and I was very excited, but this is how my life is right now: the next morning, my baby wakes me up at 5:50 AM every morning, wants her bottle, and usually my wife handles it, but for that morning I was like, "I'm a Grammy nominee! I'll get up and deal with this!" So I got up, and I'm in my robe, and I give the baby her bottle, I feed the dog, I get back into bed, the dog wedges himself next to me, and then I lie on my back and hold the baby. The baby's waving her arms all around, she lifts her leg up and kicks me in the nuts. And then my dog farts in my face. And I'm lying there, and I go "I think 'Weird Al' Yankovic's gonna win." The universe just told me, "get out of your head you idiot"

I predict neither of them will win. Either Colbert or Spinal Tap would have to be considered frontrunners right?

Yes, I think that either Colbert or Spinal Tap will win. Does anyone think the comedy category should be split between spoken word and music?

Definitely, but we're lucky it's even like this. Up until a few years ago the category was called Best Spoken Word Comedy Album and there was no way a musical comedy album could win a Grammy unless it won in the General fields.

Just wondering... Do you think the comedy category award will be shown on the Grammy telecast, or is it usually given at a ceremony before the telecast?
