Thank you. That phrase "be your chum" was one of the highlights of the evening for me. A pun that required a whole song to set up, but well worth it.CatraDhtem wrote: The "Jaws" song, titled "Love Theme From Jaws," was specifically sung by Kevin...a wonderful send-up of those lame "torch" songs that show up over the end credits of movies (the one that immediately came to mind was the crappy "Jaws" rip-off "Orca," which does feature such a song at the end!).

Re: Weird Al Joins Rifftrax For Live Show!
I went to see RiffTrax with my daughter (RoseTyler) and 12 year old son. We had a wonderful time. The show was well done and very funny. The movie shorts they chose were so hokey that sometimes the audience would laugh without any riffing necessary. Most of the shorts were by Castle films "Pouring boiling hot cauldrons of entertainment on the heads of viewers for over 30 years," or something similar to that. If you did not get to attend the show, you can check out some of the free downloads relating to the show at RiffTrax.com/toyshop.
We were mildly disappointed that Al's part in the show was so brief, and that they chose a pork product commercial film for him instead of a Christmas film. There was also a movie they showed about swimming that seemed to not fit in very well with the holiday theme. However, for the most part we, and the entire audience, laughed quite merrily throughout most of the show.

I loved the show! I'd forgotten how much I missed the MST3K stuff. The only thing I didn't care for was the very ending with all that (faux) throwing up. I think I could have gone all evening without seeing that.

I've found many forum posts (not this forum, that would be too easy) and blog posts where the only fault to be found with the Rifftrax show was Not Enough Weird Al. Here's one of them. http://teh-dirty-robot.livejournal.com/408273.html

That seems to be the critique echoed on some of the more official MST3K/Rifftrax message boards, that Al was underused. If anything, it seems as if the majority of fans were disappointed that he did not sing, even though I'm pretty sure that was never promised in any official advertising for the show. Some of the harsher statements suggest that Al's contribution was so small that his appearance was almost unnecessary.Orthography Enthusiast wrote:I've found many forum posts (not this forum, that would be too easy) and blog posts where the only fault to be found with the Rifftrax show was Not Enough Weird Al.

I can see where the criticisms would come from. They are fair enough. If I were only there to see Al(and most were not), I certainly would be disappointed. I can't even see why they would expect Al to sing personally except for the fact that he's a musician by trade. However, Rifftrax has never been known to have much music, has it(she asks being more ignorant than she should admit)?

I think what probably affected a lot of people's perceptions of it (I iknow it did mine) is that when Al worked with them before, on Jurassic Park, he was riffing right alongside the guys for the whole movie. And Jurassic Park was a hoot. So IMO it wasn't unreasonable to expect that this would be similar.
As far as expecting Al to sing, that was undoubtedly because Jonathan Coulton was with Rifftrax for Plan 9 from Outer Space, and he DID sing.

Annnnnnnnd here we go! Just released!CatraDhtem the Exhausted Researcher wrote:I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but Rifftrax just released a DVD of their last live Fathom event thing (the "Plan 9" one), so it's possible that this one might see a DVD release as well in the future, for those who will miss it.

Thanks for the heads up. Didn't get to see this in the theater, so I ordered the DVD. Much better this way, as I can fast forward to Al's part.
