It was a great evening. Had fun meeting w/ Vikki, Jordan, Tina & her 2 kids (whose names I don't remember, sorry) and Melissa at Genghis Cohen's. The Chicken Tom Tom was great, and I'm eating the leftovers now (and dropping the occasional piece of asparagus down the neck of my tank top  )

The celebrity guests bring shorts to show before the film they've picked; Al showed the "educational" short that preceded the actual Al's Brain movie, his sway pole clip from Circus of the Stars (he looked scared-- and very athletic. That goofy looking accordion player had amazing muscle control and balance). And, last but not least, the CNR video, he said just so he could see it on the big screen. But it was also, I thought, the best choice of the Internet Leaks videos for a film-buff audience.

I couldn't do a precis of the whole interview with Al, but he told us what he thought the key to good spoof comedy was, and I think his own work shows he walks the walk, not just talking the talk: he said good spoof comedy should be funny even if you don't know the source material. It's not enough just to call out pop culture references.

After the movie, they showed the video for One More Minute so that we could see for ourselves how much OMM owed to Elvis Presley by way of "Nick Rivers." And the answer is, quite a lot.

Melissa and I misbehaved by singing along with the video. :P

Al stayed and met and greeted afterward. He seemed to like the bottle of Purell that Vikki brought him. I even had a chance to chat a bit with Suzanne (bananas and jellyfish-- her vacation had a bit too much of both).

A lovely evening.

Thanks Helen!
Thanks to this and Twitter, and the fact I have a copy of the movie on my HD I managed to contain my rampant envy of everyone who went.

Kudos to Vikki for the Purell (I absolutely would have done that too!)
Did you take a camera Helen?..

Thanks for posting, Helen. Sounds like it was a great evening. Glad you got to talk with Al and Suzanne.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

Nooo... I know, I lose some fan points for that, but Melissa took a pic of me with Al, which I'll get from her eventually.

I don't think anyone in our party did, and now I'm feeling a little bad about it. He got very little attention that night, I'm afraid.

Well, it just means we'll have to go back! Next month's Comedy Death Ray movie:
"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" :D

I would completely be on board with a trip to see Monty Python and fawn (tastefully) over Mr. Aukerman.

Dang it! I missed Top Secret! I probably couldn't afford to go to the UCB anyway. Glad you guys had fun and thanks for the summary.
How old was that last signature? I mean, really?

Oh please do.. and show Scott some love. Hes a SUPER super-nice person, smart and witty, and if you want him to love you forever, ask after his lovely wife Kulap Vilaysack and adorable Boston Terrier, Rocky...
